Cafe Jufei in Kulai
One of our favourite things about Kulai, a town 45 minutes from JB, is how contrastingly peaceful it feels compared to busy cities like JB and Singapore. Here, you’ll be able to find cosy cafes with major zen vibes that are perfect for people-watching and chill dates.
Of these, a must-visit spot is Cafe Jufei. This quaint cafe transported us straight into an old-school Taiwanese flick, with aesthetic retro furniture and homey cafe grub that we could chit-chat over for hours.
How to get to Cafe Jufei in Kulai?
Cafe Jufei is located right in the town centre of Kulai, and is just a 13-minute walk from the KTM station. You can also opt to take a 2-minute car ride from the train station to the cafe, but if you enjoy calming strolls, we’d recommend going by foot instead since the roads here are relatively quiet and peaceful.

Also, a side note – the cafe’s entrance may be a tad hard to locate as there’s no recognisable signboard placed outside, but keep a lookout for a small shophouse with green flooring and brick walls. You should be able to find a small menu board there, next to a flight of stairs. Walk right up, and you’ll reach Cafe Jufei.
Homey interior with antique furniture
Walking into Cafe Jufei felt like stepping off a time machine back to the 80s. The cosy space is furnished head-to-toe with rows of old wooden bookshelves, each decorated with collections of antique goods, from retro figurines and cameras, to yellowed books and old picture frames.
We were particularly impressed by the owner’s collection of cassette tapes – here, we spotted several Andy Lau, Anita Mui, and Michael Jackson tapes on display; major throwbacks indeed!
There’s also ample seating space inside, with comfy sofas and dining tables sprawled all around the place.
We couldn’t leave without posing for some IG-worthy photos.
Protip: If you’re looking to take pics, we’d recommend sitting by the windowsill – the natural sunlight streaming through will give your shots an extra dreamy feel.
These seats have the best natural lighting.
Good coffee & homemade pastries
Aside from its lovely interior, we’re happy to report that Cafe Jufei serves yummy food and drinks as well.
The owner – a friendly uncle who was absolutely down to talk us through his menu recommendations – told us he has worked in the F&B scene for over 25 years, and handmakes most of his menu items.
He’s particularly passionate about his coffee, which he switches up from time to time with seasonal blends of coffee beans. Noting our preference for milkier drinks, he recommended a Single Origin White coffee (RM16, ~S$4.86), which he’s currently brewing with Ethiopian beans. True enough, our cuppa was both aromatic and milky, with a mildly sweet nutty aftertaste.
Since we’d come all the way here, we also made sure to order an Iced Matcha Latte (RM15, ~S$4.56) and refreshing Cold Brew Tea (RM18, ~S$5.47), plus bites like an Original Waffle (RM8, ~S$2.43), 6” Pizza (RM15, ~S$4.56), and Cheesecake (RM12, ~S$3.65).
What’s also interesting is that the flavours of some of his offerings, like the pizza and cheesecake, change on a daily basis. On the Wednesday we visited, Uncle was serving Hawaiian pizza and lemon cheesecake.
Of all the dishes we tried, we particularly liked the creamy, zesty cheesecake, and our plate of waffles, which was whipped up old-school style with powdered sugar, butter, and syrup.
Travel back to the 80s at Cafe Jufei
Packed with 80s and 90s memorabilia, Cafe Jufei is one of the vibiest places to visit for an escape from reality. If you’ve got time to spare, it’s also the perfect spot to unwind for a few hours – we even spotted some knick-knacks for sale, like dangly earrings and rings.
