14 Cheap & Affordable Hotels In Singapore From $82 That Are Small But Not Lupsup, With Reviews

Affordable hotels in Singapore for cheap staycays

A staycation is the closest thing to a holiday one can get without having to apply for leave and jetting out of Singapore city. Somehow, not having to make our beds, do any household chores, or even step into our homes works wonders to momentarily teleport us from our current reality.

And while cooping ourselves up in a 5-star hotel is a luxury most of us cannot afford, there are smaller luxuries that aren’t that far off.

We’ve trawled through a bunch of hotel booking sites to bring you this list of non-lupsup affordable budget hotels in Singapore for a quick stress-relieving staycay in the city:

Note: Prices may fluctuate according to your selected dates. All prices are accurate at the time of writing.

When is the best time to book a hotel?

Getting the best rates actually depends on how many stars your hotel has. If it has 1-2 stars only, making a reservation about a week in advance will score you the lowest price. For 3-star hotels, a last-minute booking will be in your favour – just 3 days prior is the best time to book. Hotels that have 4-5 stars are best booked 3 months in advance.

Although the shared bathroom was generally fine, there were times when it didn’t meet ideal hygiene standards due to other guests – but it was always cleaned up during scheduled times, which helped. The staff were helpful and friendly. Plus, the location is very convenient, with easy access to hawkers, shops and amenities. Overall, a good choice for budget-conscious travellers.” – Elise via Google Maps

The rooms were clean, the bed comfortable with good amenities in the room including a safe box. The lift is only accessible with a room key card, so it is quite secure to walk around. Venue Hotel The Lily review: “Not the most accessible location (the nearest train station is a 20-minute walk) but there are many good eateries in the vicinity so that makes up for the convenience. The front desk was delightful and the rooms were small but clean. AC seems to be fixed so there’s no way of adjusting to your preferred temperature. I would also recommend getting rooms that offer a window view as it could feel rather claustrophobic otherwise. ” – Tiffany Tan via Google Maps

6. Venue Hotel in Joo Chiat

From $82

The wall-ceiling wooden accent makes their lobby look more like an exhibit at the SAM.

It stands true that you can usually gauge how lupsup a hotel is from its lobby, and one glance at Venue Hotel’s will tell you that the only lupsup you’ll find, is at the KTV next door.

Located just down the road from Venue Hotel The Lily, Venue Hotel in Joo Chiat almost looks like a carbon copy except for its white swing doors. It has the same black-and-white exterior, room categories, and even room pricing but they are 2 different hotels.

Hotel Mono review: “Booked the Small Double room which is the most basic. Didn’t expect much of it but was happy that the bed was comfortable and big enough for 2 people. The room is very small, probably like 11sqm. However, the design of the room is very well thought of as there is ample space to move and areas to place your things. Also, the bathroom is relatively spacious. The only downside is that there is no bidet. The walls are also a bit thin so you could hear noises in the hallway.” – Lexie via Trip Advisor

9. Champion Hotel (Joo Chiat)

From $135

Also down the Joo Chiat stretch is Champion Hotel. The name alone ranks quite highly on the lupsup meter, but this hotel is surprisingly a lot more decent than it sounds. The reception itself gives off cosy and communal hostel vibes, and there’s a little nook just beyond the check-in desk with couches and a cocoon swing.

Superior Double Room without Window.

At $135 and $147 respectively, their Superior Double Room without Window and Deluxe Double Room with Window both come with a closet, mini fridge, and electric kettle. There’s even an additional seating area that can be used for propping open your luggage if you’re a heavy-handed packer.

The ensuite private bathroom is not in the least bit claustrophobic.

Champion Hotel review: “Our twin room for 1 night was actually pretty good; spacious and great amenities. Some of the TV channels were quite low resolution and the bathroom door is only privacy glass. Aircon works, though it was a tad loud. You can hear some noise from people in the corridor and when neighbours’ taps go on. These are relatively minor issues. Better sound proofing for rooms facing the street, on lower floors, would be good.” – woozie3 via Trip Advisor
