If there are two things we miss about travelling, it’s nature and wildlife. Just think about the sheep in New Zealand or mountains in Indonesia. And while we don’t have millions of cattle or sky-high mountains, what we do have is horses at Bukit Timah. Nestled away from the hubbub, Villa Umbrella is a cosy nook where you can enjoy a rejuvenating weekend escape.

Villa Umbrella may be labelled a boutique hotel, but it isn’t your everyday B&B. Taking over the space of what used to be Rider’s Lodge, the getaway spot offers a farmstay-like experience, complete with horses occasionally grazing at the front of the compound.

If you’re already catching “overseas vibes” from this place, you won’t be wrong. Originating from Lombok, Indonesia, the hotel has brought with it an ornate interior filled with charming decor such as paintings, carpets, and rustic chests.

Just as cosy are the bedrooms. There are 40 rooms in total with two different types of accommodations to choose from – Superior and Grandeur. Prices start from just $148/night and $168/night respectively. Each room comes with the standard desk, flat-screen TV, A/C, high-speed WiFi and a simple but clean bathroom.

While there are no pools or gyms, staycationers can look forward to a variety of offbeat experiences. On weekend evenings, horses will be taken out into the large pen at front of the hotel where guests can pet the animals for free; or, enjoy a meal at the in-house restaurant, Societe Payung, with a view of the majestic creatures.
Else, there’s also pony and bunny feeding at horse riding facility Horsecity and clay making at Clayable, both located a stone’s throw away. Not to mention, quarries and trails line the vicinity as well.
If 50KM/H is more your speed, whizz up your day with electric go-karting at The Karting Arena, just an 8-minute walk from the villa. Coupled with a paintball arena and axe-throwing range nearby, you’ll have everything to complete an activity-packed staycation in the area.
Going on a holiday doesn’t always entail a long-haul flight and currency exchange. Those who still find the idea of a VTL a little too finicky at the moment can treat themselves to a nature-filled getaway at Villa Umbrella nonetheless.
Get the full 2D1N experience by making a reservation on Villa Umbrella, or try out a short half-day stay with Dayuse if you can’t spare the time.
