5 Japanese Dining Spots in the CBD To Nourish Your Overworked Soul

Pamper yourself at these Japanese dining spots in the CBD

We all know how the hustle of work life in the CBD can take a toll on us, but sometimes, all it takes is a hearty meal from the Land of the Rising Sun to revitalize our weary souls. Also, although our insatiable cravings usually lead us back to the same familiar Japanese restaurant, it is worth stopping by Marina Bay Link Mall amidst your daily commute to explore some of its hidden Japanese dining spots and possibly discover a new favourite joint.

So spoil yourself this week with an indulgent treat at some of Marina Bay Link Mall’s many Japanese restaurants:

1. Standing Sushi Bar

For those of us looking for more bang for our buck, Standing Sushi Bar offers a casual Japanese dining experience with an inexpensive selection of sashimi, makis, and set meals.

Salmon lovers out there, try their All Salmon All The Time ($16.90) for a double dose of salmon – seared and sashimi – in one dish. If you’re in the mood for something more meaty, opt for their Garlic Gyu Don Set ($23) and enjoy tender, seasoned-to-perfection sliced Angus beef laid upon a bowl of healthy brown rice.

Also, be there from 5PM-7PM on any weeknight for their izakayahappy hour” and enjoy salmon sashimi, Asahi beer, and sake for only $5!

Address: 8A Marina Boulevard, #B2-51 Marina Bay Link Mall, Singapore 018984
Opening hours: Monday – Friday: 11.30PM-9PM | Saturday: 11.30AM-4PM (Closed on Sunday)
Telephone: 6634 7068

2. Bushido

Complete with bamboo walls, traditional Japanese lanterns, and a rustic Japanese-roofed bar, Bushido’s meticulously decorated warrior-themed interior creates an ambience so immersive that my first instinct was to reach for my phone for a picture.

Bushido Carpaccio – thinly sliced White Fish in Truffle Oil and Ponzu

As you settle in to their cosy setting, try the Bushido Carpaccio ($22.80) for starters, and do not pass on their Tori Karaage ($12.80) – deep-fried chicken crisped to perfection and drizzled with heavenly melted cheese –  guaranteed to satisfy your cheat-day cravings.

Bushido’s to-die-for Tori Karaage will leave you coming back for more

Their mouth-watering Yakitori and tapas menu, including the Shitake Truffle ($6.30), Meltique beef ($9.80), and Tebasaki Mentai ($7.20), will also leave you spoilt for choice.

3. Doutor Coffee

Don’t be fooled by its unassuming demeanor – this cosy corner cafe serves some of the best mille crepes and coffee in town.

Doutor’s sweet and milky Mille Crepe ($6.00) – the ultimate comfort food – and their Fresh Brew Coffee ($3.80) will also give you that much-needed midday blast of caffeine from its Hawaiian-grown coffee beans. Not to mention, their bar seating is well-equipped with charging ports so you’ll have a chance to recharge your electronics.

Besides their dessert menu, Doutor Coffee also serves up a quick lunch menu including their selection of Curry Baked Rice ($9.90), Savoury Waffles ($8.80), and Sandwiches ($5.20).

Be sure to catch their tea time special from 3PM daily and enjoy your choice of Desserts like Waffles with Ice Cream, Mille Crepe, and Hokkaido Souffle Cheesecake with Drinks from $7 to $9!

4. Hokkaido Ramen Men-ya KAIKO

If you find yourself trapped within the cold, concrete walls of the CBD on a rainy day and yearning for a bowl of piping hot ramen – head on down to Hokkaido Ramen Men-ya Kaiko and treat yourself to a hearty bowl of Niku Ramen Miso ($14.80++).

Otherwise, try their specialty – and my personal favorite – Kaiko Miso Tsukeimen ($14.80++), featuring thick, al dente ramen noodles served with a bowl of dipping miso sauce on the side, to be consumed soba-style.

Hokkaido Ramen’s extensive menu also includes their Salmon Rice Set ($21++), which consists of a seared teriyaki-marinated salmon steak, coupled with stir fried vegetables on the side.

5. Misaki Japanese Restaurant

If you’re looking for a fancy meal to splurge on with your significant other, look no further than Misaki. The moment you step into this restaurant’s dark and sleek interior, you’ll know you’re in for a classy treat.

Relish in an elaborate Misaki dinner set (from $33) or their exclusive monthly set meal special ($68++), which now includes a to-die-for Hokkaido King Crab Croquette – creamy crab filling encased in a crispy battered crust.

Misaki’s battered-to-perfect Hokkaido King Crab Croquette is part of their Monthly Special Set Menu

The Misaki Signature Roll – topped with generous dollops of fatty tuna, sea urchin, and giant fish roe.

Also, pamper yourself with their luxurious Misake Omakase Menu (from $150), which includes an appetizer, a melt-in-your-mouth sashimi selection, hot dishes of the day, a generous sushi selection, and soup of the day – no doubt a meal fit for a king.
