Vintage cafes in Đà Nẵng

As a major tourist hotspot of central Vietnam, Đà Nẵng is always bustling with activities, and sometimes it leaves us craving some peace and quietness.

During those moments, drop by one of these 9 vintage cafes in Đà Nẵng for a trip to the past. From riverside cafes to rustic gardens, they make for good stops for us to sit back and relax.

1. Nối Café – popular vintage café in Đà Nẵng

When it comes to vintage cafes in Đà Nẵng, Nối Café is no doubt one of the most popular. Spanning two rooms of a traditional Vietnamese apartment inside an alley, the café has outdoor seating – sit on the low stools underneath plenty of cute little plants to bathe in the sunlight on a warm spring day.

Meanwhile, the interior oozes an antique vibe with vintage tiled flooring, framed black-and-white pictures covering the walls, and an assemblage of old-school items such as TVs, cassette tapes, and rotary phones lying around.

Drink-wise, we like to go for a good ol’ milk coffee (VND18,000, ~USD0.78) every time we drop by, as the simple drink goes well with the atmosphere. The menu also offers plenty of traditional snacks that every Vietnamese has fond memories of eating as a kid, from ô mai aka xí muội – fruits dried and marinated in sugar and spices, to kẹo lạc – bars of caramelized sugar with peanuts inside.

With an ideal location right at Đà Nẵng’s center, next to the charming Hàn River, Út Tịch Coffee is another favorite hangout spot for anyone looking for a café with antique décor.

Here, all the walls are covered in murals depicting life in nearby Hội An. The dominant yellow color dotted by batches of green paint to resemble moss gives off the feeling that you’re on an actual street in the ancient town.

From the ceiling, hanging bamboo lanterns and wind chimes further add to the vibe.

On the second floor, you can also find a balcony looking straight down to the Hàn River, with the iconic Dragon Bridge on one side and the Hàn River Bridge on the other.

In terms of drinks, we found the many smoothie flavors here (VND49,000, ~USD2.12), such as coconut or mango, to be worth a try. They come fresh, moderately sweet, and with sliced fruits on top.

While Út Tịch uses murals to create the illusion that you’re in Hội An, XIU Café is practically an actual, physical Hội An street brought into busy Đà Nẵng.

The café comprises two rows of antique-looking buildings on either side of a stone road, with lanterns hanging above, connecting them. Indoor, the buildings are decorated to resemble 1970s Vietnamese family homes, with ceramic pots housing plants and Đông Hồ paintings – a form of traditional Vietnamese painting that often expresses hopes forprosperity via daily objects and events – on the walls.

As for food and drinks at the café, outside of the many options for coffee, juices, and tea that ranges from VND30,000 to VND50,000 (~USD1.31-VND2.18), you can also grab snacks such as cheese sticks (VND40,000, ~USD1.74), French fries (VND45,000, ~USD1.96), or beef jerky (VND30,000, ~USD1.31) to munch on.

4. Hẻm Xéo – inspired by Harry Potter

Hẻm Xéo – or the Diagon Alley – is a name that any fan of the Harry Potter franchise can instantly recognize. And sure enough, upon entering Hẻm Xéo Café, you’ll be greeted by a signpost with signs bearing all-too-familiar names such as Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

But while it’s clear that the owner is a true Potterhead, Hẻm Xéo is very much still a vintage-style café. Nestled in a Vietnamese-style house, it boasts low wooden chairs for seating and wooden shelves displaying old cassette tapes, paintings, and, in real Harry Potter fashion, some wizard hats here and there.

La’s Café is a lovely little café that a lot of visitors to Đà Nẵng miss out on due to its more secluded location outside of the city’s tourist area.

As is common for vintage cafes, La’s uses antique-style furniture to decorate its space. On top of that, though, practically everything here is made of wood, from the main building to the walls and floor, creating a rustic atmosphere.

Outside, on both the first and the second floor, you can find many corners surrounded by vines, cacti, and flytrap plants to sit and relax at. As the café is next to a river and surrounded by greenery, it always has a pleasantly cool atmosphere even on hot summer days.

Past the café’s timeworn gate, you’ll enter a serene gravel yard surrounded by mossy walls, with log furniture and plenty of plants dotted throughout the entire space. Inside, take a seat amidst walls covered in cute watercolor paintings and shelves displaying handmade pottery products.

Try the Secret Garden, where the tea is infused with roses, Asian pigeonwings, and artichoke flowers for a soothing, aromatic sip. The sets come with sweat treats such as cookies or bánh đậu xanh – a Vietnamese snack made by mixing grounded mung beans with sugar – to balance out the tea’s tartness.

True to its name, Nhà Xưởng – meaning “Workshop” – sets itself apart by using old motorbikes, industrial lamps, and other mechanical elements to decorate its vintage space.

Tucked inside an alley, the café boasts 4 rooms equipped with metal chairs and tables, some of which are remodeled from old sewing machines. Old stereos and other machines hung on the walls and displayed between tables create a pleasant loft-style space, balanced out by trees planted in recycled fire extinguisher cylinders that add a lively feel.

We dropped by on a cold day and had a blast with a cup of hot chocolate (VND30,000, ~USD1.30), though with summer coming, you might want to try some of the cold drinks such as smoothies (VND30,000-VND40,000, ~USD1.31-USD1.73) or juices (VND20,000-VND30,000, ~USD0.87-USD1.31).

8. Đi Lạc Café – with Tarot readings and healthy drinks

Despite being relatively small, Đi Lạc Café actually manages to combine several different décor styles into a lovely space. While the indoor furniture and tiled flooring are no doubt vintage, the clean white walls with some modern touches leave room for chic-themed shots to spice up your photo gallery.

Deeper inside, there’s a section of raw brick walls next to a small path leading up to an arched wooden door, which also makes for good picture backdrops.

Another draw of Đi Lạc that many customers are interested in is its regular Tarot-reading events, held every Thursday and Sunday. Participating in a full session will set you back VND100,000 (~USD4.33), or you can opt to pay VND10,000 (~USD0.43) for every question you wish to seek answers for.

Outside of that, the café has some popular board games such as chess and Uno for you to play with friends.

In terms of food and beverages, Đi Lạc puts a strong focus on healthy drinks such as herbal tea (VND32,000, ~USD1.39), fruit yogurts (VND32,000, ~USD1.39), and juices (VND25,000-VND30,000, ~USD1.08-USD1.31). They also serve up some great light meals from chocolate toast (VND15,000, ~USD0.65) to toast with jam (VND20,000, ~USD0.86).

9. Dune 45 – roadside drink counter designed like a mobile café

Opened just earlier this year, Dune 45 is a more unique café than most others you’ll see in Đà Nẵng. The entire café is basically just a roadside drink counter designed to resemble a mobile café, with an opening through which the staff interact with customers.

Of course, the nature of the café means you’ll simply be sitting on low stools right on the sidewalks to enjoy your drinks. Still, the cute, intriguing appearance of the “caravan” with its pleasant deep blue color, wooden panels, and lovely little plants have captured the attention of many passers-by, turning Dune 45 into an increasingly popular check-in spot.

In line with the theme of simplicity, the drink menu here doesn’t have anything too fancy, but everything is well-made and comes at fair prices. A peach tea with orange and kumquat (VND25,000, ~USD1.08) makes for a nice cuppa to shoo the heat away on a hot summer day.
