The month of October is upon us, and what better way to get into the early Halloween mood than some good old fashioned horror. And by old fashioned, we mean it literally. Enter the iconic World War II venue; Battlebox in Fort Canning, to experience Underground: The Summoning, now till 3rd November 2024. Think haunted house meets escape room.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Underground: The Summoning is special, as it’s the first and only underground horror experience in Singapore. Held at the Battlebox in Fort Canning, the old WWII bunker spans over 12,000sqft. While it may be old, it’s fully air conditioned, so you can stay cool while battling the monsters.
The earliest showtime is at 6.30pm, and the latest is at 9.30pm. A session lasts around 45 minutes, depending on how long you take to complete it. You can prep for the terror that will unfold by binge watching horror movies on Netflix.
Tickets start at $60/pax. Save at least $7/pax by booking in a minimum group of 4 to get their group discount. When you do the math, each ticket will amount to $53/pax. So, to get the most out of it, just jio 7-8 of your buddies to tag along. You’ll find out later on that teamwork is the key to making it out of the room in one piece.
To get there, just take the MRT, and alight at Dhoby Ghaut station on the North East, Circle, or North-South line, and walk for 8 minutes to the place. Taking a bus is also possible; just drop off at the “YMCA” bus stop. You are recommended to arrive 15 minutes earlier so they have time to register you and your friends’ arrivals at the reception.
We personally preferred the General’s Tears drink.

Once you enter the place, head over to the registration counter. Simply flash your tickets and you’ll be ushered to the waiting area. Take a seat, maybe even have a sip of their themed drinks ($5) – Bellum’s Blood or General’s Tears to get yourself in the mood.
How to defeat all the Japanese soldiers ah?
It is only fitting that at a historical setting like Fort Canning, you’ll travel back in time to the Japanese Occupation in January 1942, a month before the British forces infamously surrendered to Japan. There, you will find the worried soldiers discussing their next course of action in those trying times.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. The soldiers turn to an ancient book of summoning and accidentally summon Bellum, the demon lord of war, who then unleashes his rampant minions all over the bunker. Escape the monsters’ wrath but beware, for every turn and path you take will determine your fate.
As you can see here, giving only 4 cards will make Bellum super angry.
In order to defeat Bellum and his goons, you and your kakis must get your hands on 8 magical cards. There are different zones and rooms to conquer, each one with different monsters and challenges to defeat and earn the magical cards. Now you see why teamwork is essential here.
Keep your eyes and ears peeled as you search for the cards.

As you navigate around the rooms trying to find the cards, be sure to stay tight with one another as it is dark. Don’t fret though, there are curtains and backroom staff that will guide you along as you go, so you won’t get lost.
So, if you’re looking for a new novel horror experience, look no further than Underground: The Experience. Think of it as an escape room set in a WWII landmark that’s equally as scary as shows like Halloween Horror Nights 2024.
