New stores at The Centrepoint

In a city where new places debut almost daily, it might seem odd to get this excited about any particular one. But a whole host of swanky new stores finally fill the void in Basement 1 at The Centrepoint, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t thrilled.

If you’re looking for a reason to be in Orchard for the 3rd time this week, the new stores below will be it. Plus, there are some nice $25 shopping vouchers in it for you.

Satisfy your sweet tooth

BJ Milky Tea might be the only bubble tea store in Singapore where you can get your sugar fix from a deaf barista.

Over here, the menu is pretty traditional. You’ll find an assortment of colourful brewed tea with dozens of toppings from spongy black tapioca pearls to slippery aloe vera jelly. Once you’ve put in an order at the kiosk, head towards the pink pickup wall where a fluffy bear paw will deliver your goods.

If BBT doesn’t fill you up, there’s Fruit Paradise right next door.

The impressive menu is 11 tarts and cakes deep, but the few savoury items such as the Pork Shabu Kimchi Tonkotsu Cha-Nabe Set ($15.90) are also highly recommended. Fuel up on a piping hot bowl of simmered pork bone broth with noodles or rice and cap off your meal with a slice of the Mixed Fruit Tart ($9.35).

Pick up gifts & hobbies

Keep Flower Matters on speed dial for when you need unique floral bouquets and gifts last minute because you procrastinate again.

At this boutique shop, you can get everything from fresh flower hand bouquets, dried floral arrangements, standees, wreaths, and Jellycat plushies. They offer same day delivery but it’s best that you order 24 hours in advance.

Those hoping to become the next Master Chef can get an expert grasp on a handful of dishes thanks to the cooking classes at Pots & Pans Culinary Studio.

Over here, you’ll get some special attention from chefs whose stints include running the kitchen at the Mandarin Orchard Hotel and Resort World Sentosa. Come try your hand at making Japanese noodles, Asian desserts, Thai cuisine, and Dim Sum.

Feast on Spanish & Malaysian cuisine

Good drinks, great food, and cool interior are what tie La Bird together.

Be smart and do what we do: start with the chef-recommended Crab Smashed Potatoes, then get the Squid Ink and Pea Fideua ($13.90), and finish it all off with the obligatory Spanish Roasted Bird ($33.90/whole). Oh and get several glasses of gin-based Dellen Rose cocktail ($15) or Passion Fruit Sparkler mocktail ($5.90) to wash it down.

If Malaysian street fare is more your jam, head straight to Malaysia Boleh! and  eat yourself into a food coma.

With 8 stalls, it might be difficult to settle on just 1 dish. That’s why we’d suggest you try them all.

Slurp up the Teochew Kuay Tiao Soup ($5), devour the Claypot Chicken Rice ($5.50), double down on Char Kway Teow ($5.50), and tear out the juicy thighs of the Dang Gui Duck (from $15). Then, roll yourself back to the office or home.
