What to expect at The Art Of Banksy in Singapore
Famed for his bold, satirical, and politically charged creations, the exhibition features an impressive array of over 200 pieces of Banksy’s works.
This includes paintings, sculptures, installations, documentaries, books, and prints, each designed to captivate and challenge you with its profound commentary.
As you start exploring, try to see how many of Banksy’s signature graffiti rats you can spot.
Once you step into the exhibition, you’ll be greeted by the Singapore exclusive section, a walled-off hotel-style lobby modelled after Banksy’s 2017 boutique hotel exhibition in Palestine.
Venturing further, you’ll see the Death of a Phonebooth sculpture which makes for an eye-catching centrepiece.
Another must-see attraction here is the installations and prints of Dismaland, modelled after one of Banksy’s largest projects from England in 2015 where he critiques capitalism and addresses serious topics like environmental destruction, refugee crises, and police brutality.
Popular graffiti works of the artist that have been brought indoors include the Flower Thrower which represents the appeal for peace to replace violence; and Balloon Girl which symbolises hope and loss – also, a common theme that can be found all around the exhibition.
Next, step into the immersive Infinity Room where activism-driven artworks addressing politics come to life.
Just opposite, capture pictures of yourself as animals trapped in an enclosure. Pieces found here were apart of Banksy’s Animal Art Trail series that sheds light on humanity’s negative impact on the natural world which includes the mistreatment of animals.
Near the end of the exhibit, take up the opportunity to spray paint a T-shirt you can bring home when making a $2 donation to the M.V. Louise Michel organisation. The funds will go towards the organisation’s efforts to resist discrimination stemming from capitalism, racism, and the patriarchy.
End your visit by stopping by the merch shop for items like books ($35), caps ($28), and even prints for just $12.
