The Art Of Banksy Exhibition Is Coming To Singapore, With Over 170 Original Art Pieces To See

The Art Of Banksy: Without Limits

Lovers of thought-provoking artwork will be excited to hear that Banksy’s exhibition tour will be landing in Singapore. Banksy’s works are known to be just as much sights to behold as they are fodder for the mind, and not many of us are lucky enough to fly across the globe to see them.

While it’ll cost us Singaporeans a lot of money to visit his pieces abroad, you’ll be able to see some of his masterpieces at The Art of Banksy: Without Limits exhibition in December 2024, where street art is brought indoors. It’ll be conveniently located in the heart of Orchard, no less.

All you need to know about The Art Of Banksy

For those who do not know about Banksy, he is an anonymous British street artist known for his thought-provoking and often satirical artwork that started appearing in public spaces worldwide in the early 1990s.

His work quickly captured the attention and hearts of the public for his stencil-based graffiti art, which often addresses themes like social justice, anti-war sentiments, and critiques of capitalism.

The exhibition will be custom-built to fit its 1,200sqm venue, showcasing more than 170 originals, prints, photos, lithographs, sculptures, murals, and video mapping installations by the talented artist.

A Singapore-exclusive portion you’ll get to see first-hand is a walled-off hotel-style lobby that was inspired by Banksy’s 2017 boutique hotel exhibition.

Throughout the space, you’ll see classic prints of bold street art that Banksy is well known for, all of which have a deeper meaning than meets the eye.

As you wander through the exhibition, you’ll see installations of some of his past pieces in a different form – like “Dismaland” being brought to life as 3D structures.

Another iconic and instantly recognisable piece by Banksy is a print of “Flower Thrower”, which represents the appeal for peace to replace violence.

One of the must-see displays is the sculpture “Phone Booth”, which serves as a visual metaphor for history that is buried as well as interrupted communication.

And of course, a Banksy exhibition is not complete without some activism artwork.

A section will be dedicated to Banksy’s activism on issues related to immigrants, plus an immersive “infinity room” that addresses politics. The trippy space is lined with mirrored floors and ceilings, with projections cast on entire walls.

If you’d like, you can contribute to Banksy’s activism with a $2 donation to the M.V. Louise Michel organisation. It’ll allow you to spray paint a T-shirt for yourself to bring home as memorabilia. Funds will go towards the organisation’s efforts to resist discrimination stemming from capitalism, racism, and the patriarchy.
