Valentine’s Day might be over, but that’s no excuse not to pamper your loved ones every now and then. If you’ve got a little one in tow, all the better; as we’ve got the perfect staycation destination lined up for your upcoming weekends – Sunway GRID.

Located right across the Tuas Checkpoint, they’ve got a couple of themed, family-friendly apartments that the kids are bound to love. In fact, you might have a hard time convincing them it’s time to check out when your stay is up; here’s what you can expect from Sunway GRID’s quirky accommodations.

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 16th February 2025.

How to get to Sunway GRID?

Similar to pretty much any destination in JB, getting into a private hire vehicle or driving to Sunway GRID is the quickest and most reliable way to get there. Westies will find it especially convenient to get there, as it’s just a 12-minute drive from the CIQ 2nd Link before you can check into your accommodations.

Those planning to call for a private hire vehicle, you’ll first need to get from Tuas Checkpoint to CIQ 2nd Link after clearing customs. In that case, hitch a ride on the CW7 buses that will bring you across the border for S$4.50, and then you are free to book your rides to Sunway GRID.

You also have the option to take the CW7L bus from CIQ 2nd Link and alight at the Hotel Ramada stop. Afterwards, board the IP02 bus and get off at the Sunway stop. Sunway GRID is then just a 9-min walk away. The entire journey takes about an hour, so if you’d rather not deal with public transport, whipping out your phone to book a Grab is the way to go.

21 different loft apartments like Avengers & Sanrio themed ones

Guests at Sunway Grid have a total of 21 different themed loft apartments to choose from that you can check out and book on the Sunway GRID Loft Apartments website. Stays start at RM300/night, and they’ve gone the whole 9 yards and decked out their accommodations with a slew of fun-filled additions for the kids to have a whale of a time during your stay.

For starters, fans of the Marvel movies will absolutely love their Avengers-themed loft apartment, which sports a model of The Incredible Hulk emerging from the walls.

The loft beds up above are also fitted with cargo nets for the rowdy ones to tire themselves out before bedtime for a restful sleep. Also, taking the stairs is just plain boring, so they can whiz down a small slide when it’s time for breakfast. There’s even a projector in the apartment, so you can replay Avengers’ superhero antics on the big screen.

If the children are fans of Robert Downey Jr. instead, go for Sunway GRID’s Iron Man-themed loft apartment. It features a mural of the iconic red and gold suit of armour and other thoughtful touches, such as an Iron Man mask light shade whose eyes seem to glow at the flick of a switch.

Should they desire to do some superhero training of their own, all loft apartments are built with a mini indoor playground. We spoke about the slides and cargo nets, but there’s even a small rock climbing wall for an aspiring friendly neighbourhood Spiderman to scale, as well as a mini rope obstacle course to go absolutely ham at.

We’ll be stuck here for a hot minute if we were to go through all 21 of their themed loft apartments, but another one that stood out to us was their Mickey Mouse home that’s chockfull of Hidden Mickeys to discover.

Sanrio girlies can opt for their Cinamoroll or Hello Kitty loft suites. We prefer the latter option though, as many areas of the apartment have been dressed with a pretty coat of pastel pink.

Other kid-friendly themed apartments that you can consider include their LEGO, Pokémon, and Doraemon loft apartments.

All apartments have a handy kitchenette that comes with a washing machine, cooking stove, and a microwave for quick meals. Free WiFi is also provided, so you can even consider booking a stay here for potential Work From Away arrangements with the fam.

As for other amenities, Sunway GRID has a pretty sweet olympic-sized swimming pool for dips when the weather gets unbearably hot. Right next to the pool, there’s also a fully-equipped gym, and for more sporty things to do, the basketball court is where you wanna head.
