Heritage Hunter: The Way Home
You may be a self-proclaimed pro at reciting the words to NDP songs like Home and We Are Singapore, but how confident are you in your knowledge of Singapore? If you think you know our little red dot through and through, put your general knowledge chops to the test with Heritage Hunter: The Way Home, a virtual treasure hunt game.
In true Singaporean spirit, the game is made even better with attractive prizes we can’t resist, including a free staycay, NDP preview and official tickets, and GrabFood vouchers. So if you’re ready for a history refresher with a dose of nostalgia, read on to find out how to play:
How to play Heritage Hunter: The Way Home
The virtual scavenger hunt spans 3 weeks from 5th-24th July 2022. Every Tuesday, starting with 5th July, get ready to pounce on the 1st clue posted on National Heritage Board’s (NHB) Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the front page of Roots. In case you haven’t heard of Roots, it’s NHB’s heritage resource portal for you to discover Singapore culture.
Look for the lightstick on the Roots homepage to access the 1st clue.
Now, this is where the fun, riddle-solving bit comes into play. You’ll face clues in the form of words, pictures, videos, audio clips. There’s even a virtual gallery for you to explore to get to the treasure. Flex your problem-solving skills to decipher the clues, and use the search function to find the corresponding Roots webpage.
The NDP cap icon will contain your 2nd and 3rd clues.
If you’re right, you’ll find an NDP cap icon holding the next clue. Repeat until you’ve solved the 3rd and final clue that will lead you to a page containing an NDP fun pack icon.
You’ve reached the end of the virtual treasure hunt when you see this NDP fun pack.
Simply click on it, fill up your details in the form, then hope for good news. Prizes will be given to 5 players weekly, so be sure to check back on NHB’s socials on these dates to see if you’ve won:
- 12th July
- 18th July
- 25th July
5 Grand Draw winners will also be announced on 26th July 2022. Even if you don’t win during the week, continue playing and keep your fingers crossed till the end of the game period for a bigger prize.
Win prizes including a staycay & $300 worth of GrabFood vouchers
Winners will get tickets to catch the NDP preview or the official parade on 9th August 2022.
There’s nothing quite like watching the parade live, but every Singaporean knows just how hard it is to score NDP tickets. If you’ve had tough luck with balloting in the past, you now have multiple chances to win tickets. Weekly winners will score 1 pair of NDP preview tickets and $100 worth of GrabFood vouchers each.
Meanwhile, 5 lucky winners will receive grand draw prizes with even bigger gains:
- 4 winners: 2 official NDP tickets and $300 worth of GrabFood vouchers each
- 1 winner: 2D1N staycation at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore (worth $1,200), 2 official NDP tickets, and $300 worth of GrabFood vouchers
Discover Singapore’s history with Heritage Hunter: The Way Home
From learning about historical events to the building blocks that formed the foundations of our sunny island, Heritage Hunter: The Way Home will take you on an exciting journey through the heritage resource portal that is Roots.
Read up on the history of this iconic dragon’s head in Toa Payoh on Roots.
Plus, with National Day on the horizon, it’s an apt time to level up on your understanding of our heritage beyond what we’ve been taught in the classroom.
You can read up about what makes us uniquely Singaporean, like the neighbourhood playgrounds we grew up with or the hawker centres we frequent. There’s even bite-sized info on our cultural heritage, like the traditions we’ve inherited from our ancestors to read up on.
Even if you don’t cop any prizes, you’ll still walk away with newfound knowledge on the place you call home to flex on all your friends – and really, that’s still a valuable takeaway.
