We’re nearing the end of the year, and that can only mean one thing: time for more vacations to get into the festive mood. But if you’ve used up all your ALs for the long weekend holidays, Misty Mountain Farmstay might be the place you’re looking for.
It’s only an hour from KL, and you can spend a short, quiet retreat with your loved ones. Plus, you’ll get to stay in rooms that look right out of The Hobbit film set.

Misty Mountain is located in Bentong, Malaysia, about an hour’s drive from KL and not too far from Janda Baik. Hop on a 1-hour direct flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur via the many airlines like Scoot, AirAsia, and Jetstar. There’s also Firefly Airlines that departs from Seletar Airport which will land at Subang Airport – about 25 minutes nearer to the farmstay compared to KLIA.
Alternatively, you can take a bus from Singapore to KL. One such bus service is KKKL Travel & Tours which leaves from various locations straight to KL Sentral, and a one-way ticket starts from S$38/pax. The bus ride takes around 5-6 hours.
From KL Sentral, board a taxi and the farmstay is just a convenient 1-hour drive away. Of course, you could also drive from SG to KL and directly to Misty Mountain which will take roughly 5.5 hours without any traffic.
Fans of The Lord of the Rings trilogy may be familiar with Hobbit houses but for the uninitiated, they’re smaller, underground homes found by the hillside for, you guessed it, the Hobbits.
Step into the fictional world and book a stay in the Hobbit House. These cosy, underground-like rooms are available for RM330/night (~S$100.38) on weekdays and RM390/night (~S$118.63) on weekends for 2 persons. The windows open up to a forest view, and guests can enjoy complimentary breakfast in the mornings.
If you’re one with nature, you might prefer to book your stay in the Rainforest Rooms. The 3 rooms accommodate 1-4 guests, and rates start from RM230/night (~S$69.96). These rooms have a circular window that overlooks the mountains. Similarly, breakfast is also provided.

Apart from being a relaxing nature retreat, the Janda Baik area offers many activities for guests to participate in. There’s tons of ATV rental services, and outdoor enthusiasts can hop on an ATV bike driving through river streams and mud tracks. Black Pearl Adventure Janda Baik and Rimba Valley Motor Campsite is within a 10-minute drive from the farmstay.
Or, if you’d prefer a more laid-back activity but still want to clock in your steps for the day, head for a 1.5-hour hike to see the Lata Tampit waterfall. It is a 7-tier waterfall and the upslope hike to level 4 is beginner-friendly and suitable for families with kids. Adventurous ones can hike up the more challenging routes to Level 7 to take a dip in the pools.
Animal lovers will be thrilled to know they can interact with the cute and friendly resident animals at the farm stay. Spend an afternoon on the farm feeding the goats and rabbits in the barns or watching the ducklings go for a little swim.

Gather around a bonfire with your loved ones when night falls and unwind under the star-filled sky with warm, toasted marshmallows.
Enjoy fresh, homestyle meals at Misty Mountain where there are 2 set meals to choose from, each costing RM70 (~S$21.29) and including 5 dishes that serve 2 people. These dishes include the likes of chicken curry, omelette, and fried chilli fish.
For those who enjoy a more hands-on dining experience, the BBQ set-up is available for RM140 (~S$42.57) for 2 pax. Guests must pre-order their meals at least 3 days before the stay.
You can now add this hidden spot to the travel destinations you’ve bookmarked. Doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of the fantasy trilogy or just someone who enjoys spending time in nature, Misty Mountain is the place to be if you’re looking for a short getaway away from the city.
