About Madame Tussauds

You know the saying “Fake it till you make it”. Well, I am faking to myself that I actually got to be in the same room as Barack Obama, and got to stroke Johnny Depp’s hair. It might be a dream come true for many and I was thrilled to be able to experience it first-hand.

Madam Tussauds was established in London in 1835. It is one of the oldest and most popular attractions in the world, drawing millions of visitors every year. This is the first wax figure museum in Singapore, featuring over 60 iconic local and international celebrities. Madame Tussauds Singapore is the 18th around the world and the 7th Madame Tussauds in Asia.

Madame Tussauds Singapore

Lily Lim, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Singapore, wanted to bring this wax attraction to the shores of our little red dot to tap on Singapore’s geographic advantage of being a tourist hub. Since Sentosa is a very popular destination for both locals and foreigners, she felt it is an ideal place for a new branch of Madame Tussauds.

The wax figure making team has come a long way in perfecting the artistry in making the figures. New techniques are constantly being explored, but the fundamental process of creating a wax figure was employed by Madame Tussauds herself, 250 years ago.

My Experience at Madame Tussauds Singapore

Some of the international and Asian A-list personalities that are featured includes Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and his wife; Kwa Geok Choo, Stefanie Sun, Gurmit Singh, Jay Chou, Queen Elizabeth, David Beckham, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.

With the selfie trend nowadays, what better way to tap on it than now! You can get up close with your favorite personalities and create ultimate selfie with them.

I love how the whole attraction is very interactive and the staff are very friendly in showing you around while explaining facts about the wax figures. Unlike the conventional museums that restrict you from touching the exhibits, you are highly encouraged at Madame Tussauds to do the exact opposite. You can play golf with Tiger Woods, do some sit-ups with David Beckham and challenge Muhammad Ali to some kick boxing.

I was impressed by how every wax figure is very intricate. They use real human hair, which is ethically-sourced. With each strand inserted individually using a forked needle, it takes up to 4 weeks to complete each figure’s head.

Many rounds of comprehensive research goes into the process of wax figure making – the sculptors at Madame Tussaud’s know what brand of watch Obama wears and more. The clothes on the figurines are either donated by the celebrity or sourced to match the original.

Unique Selling Point

The unique selling point of Madam Tussauds Singapore is that it is the only Madame Tussauds’ attractions to have a water ride. It features a uniquely Singapore boat ride called ‘Spirit of Singapore’, which will take visitors on an illuminated voyage showing them the iconic places in Singapore, from Marina Bay Sands to the epic annual F1 night race.

The ride uses dynamic lighting and multi-sensory effects to showcase the essence of Singapore; celebrating the beauty and sights of our country. I was expecting an outdoor ride but it turned out to be inside a tunnel, so rain or shine, the ride goes on.

You get to mingle among Hollywood’s hottest celebrities and literally rub shoulders with them. Who wouldn’t want to walk the red carpet with film legend Leonardo Di Caprio and plant a kiss on the cheeks of the acclaimed Sexiest Man Alive – Johnny Depp.

Instead of flying to other countries to view the wax figures, we have one right on our island and whether you are a patriot or not, the local figures are a definite must-see. This is an attraction that deserves a visit!
