If you’re envisioning what a perfect marriage looks like, it could very well be a pint of cold refreshing Guinness stout and sinful mixed grills.

Great news for those who’ve been craving a cookout with lots of beoir, as the Irish put it, Guinness’ Great Grill Out (GGO) is back for its 2019 instalment. Happening on 2nd & 3rd November 2019 at Loewen Road, the festival will have you gorging on Guinness-infused dishes and taking part in masterclasses to hone your grilling skills.

Read on to find out what’s in store for you:

Feast on Guinness-infused dishes & a 5-course pairing meal

Who would have thought you could enjoy both Guinness and succulent grills in one mouthful? It turns out stout tends to enhance the flavour of meat dishes when added as an ingredient.

It makes sense then, that GGO’s culinary offerings will be helmed by restaurants known for their grilled meat like Camp Kilo Charcoal Club, MeatSmith, and Red Eye Smokehouse. They’ll be serving up Guinness-infused dishes throughout the weekend, and since it has been created exclusively for this event, it may be your only chance to have a taste.

Amidst all the Western-style grilled dishes available, look out for Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant in the lineup too. They’re known for their Japanese-style barbecue, particularly signature grilled Unagi that’s coated in a shimmery sheen of caramelised sauce.

If there are too many options and you’re not sure where to start, head for a 5-course meal that comprises dishes prepared by partnering restaurants. The meal will come paired with beer from Open Gate Brewery that is making an exclusive appearance at this festival. The entire dining experience costs $68/person, and you can sign up here to chope your spot.

Browse an eco-friendly market and snack on healthy greens

Eco-consciousness also takes precedence in this year’s GGO, with a market that’s all for a good cause, and healthy food options for a well-balanced diet.

Taking on a sustainable theme, their Farmers’ Market is worth a visit as you’ll be able to score some environmentally friendly buys. There’ll be cutting boards made of sustainable hardwoods that you can customise yourself, as well as artisanal beeswax wraps you can get to replace regular plastic food wraps.

Those who can’t afford a cheat day don’t have to shy away from GGO either, since Frank Food Company and its fresh organic greens will be making an appearance. They import sustainable produce from their farm in Indonesia and you can order weekly veggie boxes from them.

Attend masterclasses with industry experts

After you’ve had your fill of delicious grilled meat, you’ll have a chance to get hands-on and learn some culinary skills by attending the workshops here.

Take on a basic grilling workshop by Weber Grill Academy. They have an academy at Joo Chiat Road and hold classes on barbecuing, preparing steaks and roasts, and even cooking pizzas.

If you’re more of an expert in chowing down food, you can look forward to a meat and beer pairing workshop held by beer sommelier Ian Colgan from Guinness Storehouse and Michelin Star chef Malcolm Lee from peranakan restaurant Candlenut. You’ll be able to decipher what kind of meal goes best with your favourite type of beer.
