Let’s be real here, no Johor Bahru trip is complete without a visit to one of their cafes. Today we’re talking about dog cafes – namely, Chill ‘N Chow Cafe. If you can’t say no to any adorable fluff balls, here’s a warning: you’re soon going to be yeeting yourself over to this Mount Austin gem.

The biggest concern anyone has with pet cafes is if the animals are being treated right. Rated at 4.8 stars on Google, Chill ‘N Chow Cafe is one that’s hygienic, without overcrowding of customers or animals.
With a limit on the number of groups entering at one go, you’ll find that the dogs here have room to rest and head over into a corner for some me-time if they need to. Just be prepared to spend some time waiting for your turn to enter the play area, since the cafe is walk-in only.

Chow Chows – they need no introductions for most. But if you’re unfamiliar with the breed, they are known to be bear-like with short rounded ears and an extremely fluffy coat. There are 5 Chow Chows here for you to play with, but as of time of writing, 1 of them just gave birth and is being kept in a nursery.

Keep in mind that this breed is naturally rather aloof and low-energy. It’s in their nature to be sleepy most of the time and they don’t engage with humans the way other popular breeds like Golden Retrievers and Poodles do. But lazy as they are, the dogs here are open to cuddles and are very cooperative when it comes to taking photos.
P.S. There’s also a staff assigned to ensure that customers and the dogs behave at all times. They are also more than happy to help you snap some photos.

Priced at RM20/hour (~S$5.80) on weekdays and RM23/hour (~S$6.80) on weekends, Chill N’ Chow is certainly one of the more affordable pet cafes around – even for Johor Bahru. You’ll be surprised to find that prices can go up to double or triple that here. It doesn’t hurt that there’s a free cup of coconut ice cream that comes with each entry!
Snacks for the dogs are also available for purchase, and there are toys provided for you to play with the pups. Socks are required here so make sure you bring one along. Alternatively, you can also purchase one here for an affordable RM3 (~S$0.90).
With its location being in Mount Austin – which is low-key known as where all the best food in JB are – you can easily find a delicious meal in the area after. Check out Warakuya, Principal Cafe, and Chagee.
