A Look at AirAsia’s Revamped Inflight Meals to Indonesian destinations

Our AirAsia Trip To Bali

Let me get this straight – I am not a fan of flying. Don’t get me wrong, I love travelling but I’m not the kind of person who can sit still in an airplane for more than an hour. But if there’s another thing I dislike more than flying, it’s plane food. I’ve had extremely bad experience with plane food in the past and the thought of having to consume it makes me shudder.

Despite my past accounts, I’ve heard rave reviews about AirAsia’s revamped inflight meals and was super excited to try it especially after reading Nicole’s AirAsia food review when they went to Bangkok. So, with our luggages all checked in, Si Min and I were all set to board AirAsia’s flight to Bali and try their new inflight meals they have prepared for their Indonesian destinations.

Oh right, have I mentioned who joined us for the day? They’re none other than 98.7FM DJs Joakim and Sonia! They look just so adorable, pulling off them AirAsia caps.

“C’mon, c’mon let me board the plane already!”

A Sneak Peek of AirAsia’s Inflight Meals

By the time we boarded the plane, my stomach was growling and yearning for some food. Luckily for us, the food didn’t take long to come and we were super eager to tuck in.

Our food came in such aluminium packaging that kept it piping hot! I was surprised that it was still hot to the touch.

Our first dish was the Nasi Kuning Manado which consisted of smoked cakalang (skip-jack tuna), balado egg, fried sweet potato, potato soya with beef and chilli sambal. It is also a popular dish from Sulawesi and was a delight to have.

The sambal is quite spicy and overall, the dish was slightly dry as there was no soup to complement it. Nevertheless, I really liked the cakalang and potato soya with beef because they were oh-so tasty!

Our second dish was Indonesian Fried Noodles which is basically your typical stir-fried egg noodles with chicken slices, egg and mixed vegetables. What stood out for me is that this Indonesian cuisine tasted much like the ones they sell in hawker centres back home!

It had a black pepper taste to it but it wasn’t too overwhelming and it wasn’t spicy at all. This is definitely my preferred dish out of the two and although it’s a little bit salty. If I had a bigger stomach, I would have gotten myself another serving.

Our final meal was the Chicken Mayo Apple Sandwich and boy was I excited to try it! You can hardly find such a combination in Singapore and it was truly love at first bite. I wasn’t a fan of their big chunks of tomato but absolutely loved the sandwich as a whole. You can’t really taste the apple though which was a slight disappointment. But, it was a yummy meal indeed.

Yes, I was that happy to get my sandwich.

After two and half hours of flying, we finally touched down in Denpasar, Bali!!! Si Min and I were so ready to conquer Bali and we didn’t even have to worry about lunch because we were so well-fed! We were super eager to start planning our activities there (yes, we didn’t plan ahead) which you can read all about right here in my Bali holiday blog

Thank you AirAsia for the amazing inflight food experience and the lovely flight!
