Social travel groups in Singapore
Every friend group has that one chat. The Japan trip has been in planning since 2023, someone is still checking their leave, and the only thing anyone has booked is a reminder to talk about it again next month. Basically, the trip never made it out of the group chat. The fix is to stop waiting and join one of these social travel groups in Singapore.
They sort out the itinerary, the logistics and, most importantly, the company. You show up solo or as a duo and leave with a new hiking crew, ski buddies, or a group chat that actually goes somewhere. We rounded up 9 Singapore-based groups that run adventure trips across Asia and a little beyond, from $120 day hikes in Malaysia to Kilimanjaro summits.
Table of Contents
A social travel group is a trip you join on your own or with a friend, where the organiser handles the logistics and deliberately mixes the group so strangers bond. Most groups add a social layer, like pre-trip meetups, group chats, or trips sorted by age.
1. sotravel
Age-banded group trips, from volcano weekends to dog sledging in Mongolia
Chances are your friends have already heard of sotravel. It started with a 7-day French Alps ski trip, and its Telegram group grew to nearly 200 members within days of launch. Today it runs dozens of trips for a crowd that is mostly adventurous Gen Z and millennials.
The main draw is that each trip comes with an age group, so you won’t be the only 24-year-old on a bus of retirees. Trips are usually built around a specific activity, like skiing, surfing, climbing, or diving, so everyone already has something to talk about by day 1.

2. Little Monsters Travel
Weekend sunrise hikes in Malaysia, with a Telegram bot that finds your next mountain
For the lesser-known Telegram crowd, Little Monsters Travel is a licensed agency that lives on chats rather than glossy ads. New hikes drop on its Telegram channel, and there’s even a Telegram bot, @LMTfindmyhike_bot, that helps you pick one. Trips are led by founder Gan, whom past hikers describe as the kind of leader who hangs back so nobody gets left behind.
Most trips are day hikes across the Causeway, picking up from Marsiling MRT. Recent listings feature Malaysia day hikes, covering 2-way transport, a trek leader, local guides, and park permits. Food and insurance are on you.

The Gunung Datuk sunrise hike is billed for hiking beginners and ends with a Malacca stop for chendol and kueh, which is honestly reason enough to wake up at 3am. Once your legs are ready for more, the team has also run a 3-day Mount Rinjani trek via the Torean route, with views of the Segara Anak crater lake and a soak in hot springs.

3. Off The Grid
Overland road trips through Yunnan & Xinjiang, ending with a private campsite party
Off The Grid, or OTG to regulars, pitches itself as a group travel company for Singaporeans in their 20s and 30s. Think small groups on overland routes through China, Tibet, and Indonesia, minus the coach bus and the compulsory jade factory stop.
The social part starts before the plane does. Organisers hold a pre-trip meetup for each group, which past travellers credit for making things less awkward for introverts. One self-described introvert ended up joining 3 OTG trips in under 6 months.

4. cat.treks
Women-only adventures where a secret angel looks out for you all trip
Mixed-gender group trips can be fun, but they weren’t always designed with women in mind. cat.treks fixes that with women-led, women-only small-group trips from Singapore, covering trekking, surfing, and wildlife. Its trip leaders, nicknamed stray cats, are hand-picked hosts who lead groups of 8 to 18.
The icebreakers here are genuinely clever. 14 days before departure, everyone answers 6 anonymous questions about why they’re travelling, which the group can read to suss out the vibe. On the trip itself, you’re secretly assigned a fellow traveller to do small acts of kindness for, and on the last night everyone guesses who their secret angel was over a closing reflection.
Trips fall under 3 types: Unseen for offbeat adventures, Unwind for retreats, and Unlock for learning a new skill.
| Upcoming trips | Highlights | Price | Dates |
| 6D5N Hakuba Unlock: Beginner Snowboard or Ski | Alpine scenery, group lessons, Japanese meals | From $2,499 |
|
| 9D8N Mongolia Unseen: Winter Wonderland | Mini Gobi, Arkhangai hot springs, Lake Khuvsgul, reindeer herders | From $3,199 | 13th-21st Feb 2027 |
| 8D7N Swedish Laplands Unseen: Northern Lights & Arctic Dreams | Stockholm, Abisko, Kiruna, dogsled, ice fishing, traditional sauna, Icehotel | From $4,299 | 17th-24th Mar 2027 |
Safety is a big part of the pitch, with local female guides whenever possible, trip-specific safety guidelines and a 24/7 safety hotline. Booking takes a 25% deposit, with the balance due 60 days before departure, and a 48-hour free cancellation window.

5. Adventures Unlimited Singapore
Training hikes at Bukit Timah before you take on Patagonia or the Himalayas

Signing up for Everest Base Camp when your longest walk is Orchard to Somerset is a bold move. Adventures Unlimited (AU) gets that, which is why it runs training hikes in Singapore before the big trips, like Bukit Timah circuit sessions.
It comes in 2 flavours. AU trips are the tougher treks and expeditions, while Journeys Unlimited (JU) launched in 2024 as a more laid-back option for those who prefer scenery over suffering.

7. The Untold Direction
Sleeper trains & wild camping in Central Asia, with groups capped at 6

Image adapted from: @theuntolddirection via Instagram
The Stans are having a moment, and The Untold Direction got there early. Founded in 2022 by 27-year-old Ganesha Balakrishnan, it has run about 150 trips for over 1,600 travellers, and its itineraries regularly sell out months ahead. In fact, the majority of its travellers are women, many of them solo.
Groups are capped at 6 people, partly so everyone fits on local buses and trains. Expect to share open sleeper-train compartments with locals, pitch your own tent by mountain lakes and, in Turkmenistan, go fully offline for about 7 days. The guides are locals Ganesha befriended on his own travels, and they eat and sleep alongside the group.

Join a social travel group & leave the flaky group chat behind
The trick is to pick by vibe, whether you want an all-female girls trip, something truly offbeat, or to learn winter sports with other beginners. Whichever you choose, read the inclusions closely since flights are usually extra, and try a free local hike or meetup before paying a deposit.
The group chat can keep planning Japan; you’ll be busy summiting something.
