Takashimaya Celebrates SG60
It doesn’t get any more #supportlocal than at Takashimaya Celebrates SG60, happening from now till 11th August. In celebration of Singapore’s 60th birthday, Takashimaya has gathered all sorts of local eats and lifestyle brands at Takashimaya Square, located in Basement 2.
You can expect familiar faces like Mr. Merlion & Friends, wheniwasfour, Hougang Otah, plus nostalgic favourites featuring Pokémon and Tamagotchi. The fair has Singapore-themed photo ops as well, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to snag some Takashimaya vouchers as a bonus.

Shopping for lifestyle merch & munching on local snacks
Let’s start off with the disclaimer that your wallet may face some serious damage when you visit Takashimaya Square. The space has transformed into a bustling marketplace for local brands and delicious eats. One half of the square is occupied by lifestyle and clothing brands, while the other half is where you’ll find local eats.

The lifestyle section doesn’t just sell your run-of-the-mill T-shirts – the shops here go hard on their local-themed products. You’ll find adorable merlion plushies from Mr. Merlion & Friends ($35 each), nostalgic stuffed milk candy ($32.60 each) from wheniwasfour, and MRT station keychains ($9.90) from Tap Space.
There’s even an entire section dedicated to different varieties of live orchids (from $38) from JM Floral Creation.

All that retail therapy should be more than enough to work up an appetite. Head over to the food section where you’ll find old-school cakes (from $3.50/piece) from Sembawang Bakery, pineapple tarts ($26) from nineteen niche, and bakes (from $3.50) from Bread Butter that feature local flavours like kaya and chilli crab.
Relive your childhood at the Tamagotchi pop-up & Pokémon game stations
Take a trip down memory lane at the Tamagotchi pop-up, which stars the new Tamagotchi Paradise devices ($79.90).
I still remember the good old days of squinting at my monochrome pixelated screen and going cross-eyed. The new Paradise devices come with clearer full-colour displays and a new lineup of collectible digital pets.

Unfortunately, the Paradise devices were sold out when we got there, but they’re expected to be restocked at Takashimaya Department Store by the end of the month.
The Paradise devices go for $79.90 each, but if that’s a little out of budget, snag the limited edition Tamagotchi Mametchi Robot & Friends devices that go for $49.90 each.

Pokémon fans can find their own version of paradise at the Pokémon Mezastar zone. You’ll find a long line of the arcade machines next to a coin change machine.

Check out the old-timey landline at the Show Your Love to Singapore booth, where you can leave a birthday message for Singapore’s 60th birthday. The first 60 customers who leave their well wishes will receive a $10 Takashimaya shopping voucher, so be sure to check this booth out first!

To commemorate your trip to Takashimaya Celebrates SG60, take a shot at their local-themed photo spots. You can lepak at a replica of an HDB void deck, reminisce about the good times at the Toa Payoh Dragon playground, and play hopscotch in front of a shophouse-themed mural.
