I admit I'm not much a fan of Naked Fish. It is cheap, there's no denying that, but what I crave most from Fish and Chips (or any meal really) is satisfaction, and I think even hawker fare is better. I'm not saying that the food sucks, it's just that as compared to maybe a good plate of Hokkien Mee, I'd choose the latter any day.
This is especially so when one visits Bukit Panjang Plaza, which I frequent, since it has such a great variety of food that Naked Fish just pales in comparison and kinda just fades into the background.
The only reason why I will ever patronize this stall is if I'm craving some baked rice/ fish and chips and don't wanna wait too long. It is called Naked Fish Express after all, although why the fish being naked has to be pointed out is completely lost on me.
like their fries
I was craving for some fish and chip and chanced upon Naked fish. It's a very small eatery with about 2 or 3 tables. I thought that their fish was not too bad! It was rather fresh and the portion is quite big. Though I felt that they used too much flour on the fish. However, the highlight of the meal for me is their fries! Their fries were fried till it is crispy and the seasoning was unique and very very tasty! It has a small tinge of spiciness and it was seasoned very evenly! The price of my fish and chips is about $5. Rather value for money I would say.
I might just head back to Naked fish to get more of their fries as I just can't enough of it!
A fishy experience
Bad puns aside, I actually really like naked fish.
I came here after my sister convinced me that every single Teckwhyian and their mother have frequented and swore allegiance to this place. So I tried one of their fish and chips, along with their soup of the day and man was I sold.
The fish and chips are like Fish & co., but maybe just 5 levels down. Their soup is quite creamy and I ordered another so they must have done something very right. I think what sold me was the fries. The fish got very trying after a while but the fries just keep seducing and seducing. Me and my sister had to annoy each other for seconds.
Try their fish and chips. Oh and the soup. But fair warning though, it gets heinously trying after a while.
Cheap student lunch!
Known as The Naked Fish Shoppe at Grassroots Club, this is a restaurant that many Nanyang Polytechnic students would frequent at because it is convenient and cheap for us students! During lunch time, students under 21 (or at least that's what the menu said) can order from the student lunch set, where for less than $10 for most of the dishes, you will get an additional drink. The portion is reasonable so I think that it's really worth the money.
Mainly fish dishes, The Naked Fish Shoppe sells food the classic fish and chips, chicken/fish baked rice, and many more. I believe there is even steak for slightly more than $10 for students during lunch.
The restaurant is not difficult to locate and has quite a nice interior. The service is also of standard, and the food is satisfying. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are a student craving fish and/or looking for affordable food!
