My review is only for their fish and chips that I had in a rush. I was at AMK Hub and I had only about 30 min at most and I was getting sick of Macs so I decided to give NYNY a gamble. The name alone reminded me of Frank Sinatra and that also swayed my decision.
The food alone took almost 15min to arrive despite the place not being anywhere near a tenth full. In the meanwhile, I tried to relax and enjoy the ambience. There was none. Personally, I would have pretty much preferred to have easy listening jazz in the background rather than to have dance hits.
I didn't quite like the fish and chips. The fish was oily, and the fish tasted a little bland. Fish and Chips at Manhattan tastes many times better. Of course, not being a wasteful person, I finished up but with a mental note not to return.
New York New York has a pretty catchy name, but somehow doesn't quite catch onto you with its food. I remember eating there a few times, and nothing really left an impression on me - I never get urges to go back there. Don't get me wrong, they don't serve horrible food; just nothing that would make you go "Wow!" If you really would like to visit this place, however, I recommend the pasta, which I think New York New York is best at.
One thing I like about New York New York is its service though. The staff are usually very friendly and welcoming, and I also get served quite quickly. What more, there's free candy floss for everyone!
When i visited this place with a whole group of friends quite some time ago, we ordered many of their mains to share.
We left the place deeply unsatisfied by the food, from what i recalled.
Their pork ribs were horrible, though not as pricey as other restaurants, that doesn't give them the ticket to serve horrible, badly done food. The ribs were smelly at best, smelly meaning that it had a foul, horrid, pig odour to it, which was off putting, much less appetite inducing.
The rest of the dishes weren't well executed also. After that, my parents never ever wanted to step in ever again, even after i said i wanted to enter, to give NYNY another chance at proving itself.
Free cotton candy will only draw crowds temporarily, not permanently. Fix your food and you wouldn't need to give out freebies.
What a pointless place
The food here is like a blunt pencil.
I came here to celebrate a special day with my ex-boyfriend. I heard raving reviews and was very excited. I went to the one at Raffles City where they had a pool table all, so it felt pretty novel to us. We ordered whatnots and set off to have a round. 2 rounds later our food was still not ready despite the almost empty place. We're either very good players or the kitchen is sleeping.
Either way, we sat back down and the food was served in a bit. He decided it's a good idea to share the biggest burger they had on the meal so it was me struggling to bite the burger into smaller pieces while it sits in a sea of fries, which smelt good at first, then started to look increasingly irksome.
Skip this place.
Humongous burger large in size, lacks in taste
After resisting for so many years, I've decided to take up the New York New York Giant Yankee Burger Challenge. Not a very wise choice I must say.
The staff are friendly but they lack in numbers as I have to wait for a few minutes before spotting one waitress nearby for me to place my order.
The burger is probably the size of a pizza, with french fries laid around it. The challenge is to clean the whole plate of food. The burger taste like just any other burger. There is a choice of beef or chicken and I settled on the beef burger. The bread was very dry and I must keep drinking water to quench my thirst. The meat was so-so, I think you can get better in any other burger shacks. Besides the bread, meat and generous serving of vegetables and sauce, there is'nt much to say about the burger.
Will come back to try the other foods there but definitely not the Yankee Burger. By the way I finished it in 37 minutes and that placed me in the records books of New York New York.

Good Food, Slow Service
I've dined here about twice already and both times, the food did not disappoint. Though the prices here are rather high, they serve quality food, so I can't really complain. I highly recommend their pasta. They always come in portions that are just nice and the sauce is creamy but not overly so. I also like their coolers. There's nothing like a cool fizzy drink to complete your meal.
As for their service, I'm sad to say that it's a little below average. The waiters and waitresses are courteous enough but hardly ever smile at customers. They are also not very attentive, and leave customers waving their hands in the air for too long. I was at the Heartland Mall outlet the other day and the restaurant was not even half full. Yet, the staff and managers seemed more concerned with clearing tables than attending to the customers. Then again, the standard of service probably varies at different outlets so I'm really not generalizing here.
I will probably come back here again for the food but I really hope the standard of service is raised! It would have been an all-round good dining experience if not for the sub-par service.
Being adventurous foodies, Hubbs and I are always trying out new restaurants. When New York New York was the newest kid on the block of Western food restaurants, it didn't take long for us to decide to have a meal there.
Ok, let's cut to the main topic: Food.
We ordered the chicken cutlet, fish and chips, clam chowder and the Root Beer float.
Chicken cutlet: DRY. It tasted like it had been fried and re-fried a couple of times, where you can taste the oil mingling around your mouth even after swallowing the chicken. Nasty.
Fish and chips: pretty good. Crispy batter and piping hot fish fillets, with a generous dipping sauce.
Clam chowder: Served in a bread bowl. Nothing fantastic. I didn't even finish the bread after eating the soup.
Root Beer float: It took them 2 tries to get our drink orders right. I think they mixed our drink orders up with another couple a few tables down. The first round, they gave us warm water when we asked for iced water. The second round, they served us Coke instead of the Root Beer float that we ordered. By the time they retrieved our drink orders from the couple a few tables down, my ice cream was already done melting and dissolving into the Root Beer.
Their service standards needs an overhaul. It seems like all the wait staff are trainees or part time students and no one really bothers with serving the customers. Even the managers were more interested in talking to the pretty wait staff than taking care of the customers. Ordering took a long time, waiting for our food to be served took a long time, heck, even waiting to pay for our lunch took a long time! It was a weekday lunch period when it's supposed to be off peak period. I expected more than that!
Final conclusion: Not worth going back. Swensens or Billy Bombers would be a better choice.
I went there only once and it left me with quite the good impression, honestly. At that point in time, my family and I were pretty crazy over steak-trying and we came across New York New York and decided to give it a try. To our amazement, the steak there tasted extremely good! I think being a restaurant, their steak actually has to have a certain standard and they might have achieved that (:
Not only that, this place was the first time I tried the trending waffle ice-cream! Oh my god. Delicious. I don't think any kind of spread would make a waffle more delicious than ice-cream does. Mm~
The only reason I haven't gone there the second time though was because their food are really pricey.
Great for big eaters!
For the love of comfy seats!
I was first attracted to this place because of their semi circle unique, comfy seats for a large group of people.
Yes that was my aim when I first knew of New York New York.
Subsequently, I fell in love with their cappuccino mushroom soup. (Something along this line)
For mushroom lovers and coffee addicts, if you have not tried this, you have not met the ultimate!
Their serving portions are usually pretty big. Once I ordered pasta, with the mushroom soup, I ended up having a hard time finishing it!
However, it does get pretty crowded during dinner, especially on weekends. Thus I either go earlier or just stand in line. Well, its worth the wait!
Candy floss yay
New York New York to me is just another restaurant that serves western cuisine however it is jut a little more urban. The prices there are a little pricey as the food is normal, not really special. The portion though is just right. The place is often really packed during dinner hours at night. The staff are patient and polite and they have really good service there.
What I actually really like about New York New York is the really unique seats that they have. The seats are shaped like a U shape with the seats facing the walkway. There is also a cotton candy machine that allows the kids to get a stick of cotton candy each, and it really taste good!
So overall if New York New York is a place worth trying out however it may be a little expensive for some.
Made a mistake going there to eat.
I visited the New York New York outlet at Ang Mo Kio Hub sometime late last year. It was a totally sour experience, and here's why:
Firstly, the menu is paper-thin. there're not many items on the menu to choose from, like Jack's Place or Billy Bombers. Faced with a lack of variety, I ordered their lamb chops, hoping that it'll taste good. After what seemed like a short eternity, I finally got to place my order with a waitress who preferred slouching all over the restaurant.
My lamb chops arrived... cold. It was utterly disappointing. The mushroom sauce was tasteless and the fries were typical thick-cut and deep fried without any distinguishing taste.
When the final bill came, I paid it with the resolve of not going back there again.
I loved the place
Although i still do not understand why there is complementary candy floss, I find that New York New York is a nice place to have a quiet lunch and enjoy the food.
I remembered the outlet at Lot 1 have separate "capsule" tables available and can seat about 4 to 5 pax and its partially enclosed by itself. In terms of food, I do think that it is acceptable. I would usually order their steak as my main but i would say that it is definitely not the best steak ever, but it is still acceptable.
However, i did noted that their service level varies across branches. I had a pretty good experience at Lot 1 where the staff was attentive and gave smiles all the time. But at Jurong Point outlet, the smiles are not really present. Not sure if I just happened to be served by part timers who were not properly trained. But regardless of the part-time/full time status, proper training and guidance is still a must, since ultimately, they are serving the customers.
What's most amazing is also the super burger challenger. Seriously I really cannot imagine eating down the whole burger. I mean I do get it free if i can finish it within the timing, but what's the point since i cannot enjoy the food anymore? Point number 2, i saw the list at JP outlet a few weeks ago, surprise surprise, the list was not dominated by males, instead it was the ladies who took the challenge. Cheers and support for them.
Although I've never been to New York, or the US for that matter, I believe that what you see at New York New York is possibly what you'd get when you travel there, of which this assumption is also based on what I see on food channels on television!
I personally don't like coming to New York New York for a meal unless I am with a group of people who'd want to share food, or are so hungry that even if I were full, I wouldn't have to worry about wastage of food. Taste wise, hmm. I quite like their baked rice, and I remember actually finishing it! Their pastas and other dishes (especially those that serve the innocent-looking yet deadly fries) are killer for me, so I must share, or waste if I'm left with no choice.
I once went to the outlet at Raffles Place (now closed though) and they had some big burger challenge, whereby the burger, along with fries, cost $40 odd, and if the contestant finished everything within about an hour, he wouldn't have to pay for it, and would also walk away with a free t-shirt. I was there for a get together session with a group of friends, and one of them decided to take the challenge. He failed though, with only a few pieces of fries left (this is how killer the fries are) and we all agreed to pay for it. The outlet also had a pool table, which was cool because not many restaurants would ever place such things, as it can be a waste of space, and they even had a cotton candy machine, which I think is a signature item of any NYNY outlet you walk into, wicked!
I highly recommend NYNY for big eaters. If you can't eat a lot, find someone to share food with you, or order lighter dishes. Don't get drinks if you are afraid that you cannot finish your food if you can. Other than that, this is definitely a good place for large group gatherings, so consider NYNY if you are in need of a restaurant for an outing or gathering, whatsoever!
NYNY serves your classic american cuisine, so if you are an american food lover, then definitely try NYNY. It may serve really similar food to Billy Bombers but what makes the different is that NYNY has a friendlier staff and their BBQ ribs (my all time fav!) is better than Billy Bombers.
Setting wise, NYNY doesn't really have a specific theme to it. It just looks like any other restaurant so I guess the setting could be improved. The prices are exclusive of GST and service charge so if you're ordering something, remember to add a few dollars extra for that. The good thing about NYNY is that the occasionally give out cotton candy to their diners. (YUM) so if I were to choose between Billy Bombers and NYNY, I'd prefer dining at NYNY because they cost just about the same, food sort of taste better at NYNY and FREE COTTON CANDY!!!
