Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine at Pocket-Friendly Prices
Hankering for some authentic Vietnamese food without the exorbitant prices, my family and I decided to visit The Orange Lantern for the very first time and left feeling very satisfied indeed.
We ordered two set meals ($16++ each) which were very affordably priced considering the quality and amount of food that came with it. The main feature without a doubt was pho, slippery Vietnamese rice noodles and succulent slivers of fresh beef in a hearty broth. It was accompanied by a refreshing mango salad and three different sides. I loved the variety! It also comes with a drink, very value-for-money.
Some outstanding side dishes I recommend are the stuffed barbeque squid which tastes delectably smokey, the flavourful and very well-marinated mushroom salad (a great vegetarian option), and the gula melaka ice blended beverage that comes with cendol. It's like a drink and a dessert all rolled into one!
Worth the effort coming down for a refreshing Vietnamese experience!
Having patronized orange lantern several times- I will never fail to order the Special beef noodles as it is perfect for me as a beef-lover and the fact that it is filling. Besides that, I’ve tried the vegetarian alternative of the spring rolls and it is definitely a must-try for those vegetarian lovers- bean sprouts, radish slices, carrots and others dipped in fish sauce together sure takes the cake away.
However, on the service side, customers tend to get impatient as it generally takes a minimum of 10-15 minutes to get all the dishes served, and may take longer when the restaurant is on almost full capacity. I have seen myself customers that cancelled their order as it took too long! Personally, I do hope the food can be served faster to attract more potential customers.
Price-wise, a set meal for 2 which includes an appetizer, 2 main dishes and 2 drinks can fetch you below $40- an amount that is worth the Vietnamese experience right here in Singapore.
Nonetheless, when you eventually get your first mouthful of your order, you would feel your wait has not been in vain! Indeed for those who really appreciate the Vietnamese food and culture, the orange lantern deserves your visit!
