An important temple in Singapore's Hindu community.
This temple is best-known as the starting point for devotees during the annual Thaipusam festival. Devotees with their tongues and cheeks pierced by metal skewers and supporting kavadis make their way to another Hindu Temple located in Tank Road in this colourful procession that has become iconic over time.
The temple is dedicated to Krishna, one of the incarnations of Vishnu. Perumal is also another name for Krishna and statues of the blue-blooded deity are everywhere in the temple. The temple ceiling is also dominated by a colourful and vibrant circular pattern that depicts the 9 known planets of our universe.
The Perumal temple is also a national monument.
