THE supermarket for Japanese food lovers

I am a proud fan of Japanese food, be it mochi, or ramen, or sashimi, or maki. When I found this mini supermarket selling Japanese snacks, I was ecstatic.

J-Mart at Star Vista sells all types of Japanese desserts, such as mochi, ice cream and popsicles. If you’re lucky, you might catch one of the crazy sales J-Mart often has, where you can get two boxes of Japanese ice cream for a really low price. The vanilla flavoured mochi which comes in 9 pieces a box is a definite must-try. Every piece is bite sized, and the soft, chewy and thin layer of sweet mochi skin is wrapped around the vanilla ice cream. The matcha ice cream with red bean is also a must-try for every green-tea lover. The flavour and essence of the green tea is so authentic, and perfectly captured in the ice cream – it’s as if you’re in Japan eating it.

J-mart also carries a variety of other Japanese snacks at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, they do not have my favourite Tokyo Banana. If you are ever in the vicinity, do remember to stop by J-mart. You’re advised not to leave without a dessert in your hand!

Luxury grocery products

Japanese products were well known for their quality and nice packaging. With the higher quality and nicer packaging comes a higher price. The same applies for the products sold in this shop. I can appreciate good quality and nice packaging but forking out the extra to get such products will require me to consider my finances.

Looking at the price tags of the products, most products become luxury products. If I had given in to temptations and allowed my children to pick tit bits from this store, I guessed the bill could easily exceed $50. And with Japanese packaging, the quantity may not be a lot also. A box of biscuits can be so nicely individually packed that one box only contain a few pieces. Not really value for money.

Mini Japan!

Japanese goods just never fail to captivate me. Upon seeing this Japanese mart at Star Vista, i hesitated no less and stepped in. Immediately i was in confectionery heaven.

Rows and rows of cute and pretty packaging, whether it is snacks, rice, seasonings or drinks. Kudos to the Japanese for making the effort to make all their goods so pretty and pleasing to the eyes. I went through each and every row of goods. If i could, i would sweep everything off the shelves in an instant!

The freezer also sell any and everything possible, think premade crepes with chocolate and vanilla ice cream sandwiched in between ready to eat and pancakes sandwiching ice cream.
