The price of a tasty honey glazed whole chicken can go up to a whopping $58 (at Overeasy cafe), yet i managed to score one for $4.99. Yes, a piping hot whole black pepper roast chicken for just under $5 exists in Singapore at Cold Storage, and yes, it tastes just like any good and smokey black pepper roast chicken. Originally $10.99, it was slashed to $4.99 at 8pm; even I couldn’t believe it when I paid for it. A good tip for anyone on a supermarket budget is that prices are 50% off for fresh cooked meats after 8pm daily.
Cold Storage Sime Darby: Spacious, Well-Stocked, And Super Convenient
Cold Storage opened their Sime Darby branch last year, and it is by far my favorite Cold Storage, even topping Cold Storage Jelita. With the opening of the Downtown Line, Cold Storage @Sime Darby is conveniently located next to the King Albert Park Station, making it an excellent place for residents living in the area to get their groceries.
What I like about this Cold Storage is how spacious it is, and how wide its selections of food products are. Their international selection is especially extensive. There are 2 whole rows dedicated solely to both packaged and fresh Japanese products, as well as additional sections dedicated to products from Europe. Their organic and health food section is also very well-stocked, with almost everything from bulgur wheat to gluten-free snacks. They carry a huge variety of products, more than any other Cold Storage I’ve been to.
Cold Storage @Sime Darby also has fresh food offerings that include a salad bar, sushi counter and a live seafood section. I really love grocery shopping, and this Cold Storage is perfect for wandering around. Although located at a slightly inconvenient location at the back of Sime Darby, the queues are much shorter, and I have absolutely no problems in finding everything I need.
My Preferred Supermarket
Cold Storage, in my opinion, is one of the most ‘atas’ of all the neighborhood supermarkets. Compared to Fairprice and Giant, prices here seem to be slightly higher. You can also find more premium brands as well as organic food, which is not easy to find in other supermarkets.
I also find the aisles in Cold Storage to be less cramped than those at Fairprice and Giant and hence, prefer to shop here for a less stressful experience. As for the service, I find it to be comparable to most other supermarkets but noticeably faster.
All in all, I have to say that if given the choice of only shopping at one supermarket, this would be it. I’ve always had easy and fuss-free grocery shopping experiences here and don’t mind paying slightly more for quality products.
I love the Cold Storage at Holland V, as it is in a convenient location, for example whenever I finish dinner at Holland V and I remember I need o pick up something I can always swing by and expect to be greeted with the familiar glass doors sliding open to reveal an array of food products. I remember desperately needing Cayenne Pepper to complete a dessert that I was making for Father's Day the next day and being so relieved to find an entire shelve of MasterFood spices. It was simply a relief to know that whenever I need more specialized spices I can always count on Cold Storage to deliver.
If you're looking for rarer brands or more selective items, the only places that will stock it are probably FairPrice Finest, specialty grocers, or Cold Storage. Thankfully, it is accessible enough for most of us.
My favorite supermarket of all time
Possibly one of the best supermarkets, Cold Storage has been around for almost 14 years. Cleanliness. Check. Service. Check. Freshness. Check.
The products are well maintained and well organized. The signs are clear and really easy to understand. Shoppers need not waste time in searching them. What I like best is that there's always a staff nearby should you need any help. They are friendly and very approachable. Always with a ready smile, they're willing to go that extra mile to assist us.
The store is very spacious, so we don't have to worry about rubbing shoulders with other shoppers. The environment is really pleasant as well. I was initially worried about the smell, but so far so good. No pungent or unpleasant smell detected.
I was also surprised to find out that Cold Storage offers an online service for more convenience. Shoppers can rest assured should they not have enough time to buy groceries.
My baking paradise
Cold Storage is a great place for my baking needs where I require ingredients or desserts from western brands or premium/rare food which are more costlier. These are are hard to find at local supermarkets like Fair Price and Sheng Shiong. However at Cold Storage, I can be sure to find everything I need in my shopping list.
One other thing I absolutely love about Cold Storage is the fact that they place cleanliness of their stores of primacy. The (grocery) shopping experience is comfortable and enjoyable. Their stores are spacious and well-maintained with soothing and quiet music played in the background.
The sushi selection at Cold Storage also ups the notch as compared to ones found at Carrefour or Fair Price. They mostly sell sushi of appetising and interesting variety, fresh and sweet sashimi and filling and satisfying bento sets - that are set to fulfill your umami tastebud,
The drawback at Cold Storage however, is that you would not find the best bargains. Stocks can easily be $0.50 more than what you would find at your local supermarkets. So the best advice would be to only shop for rare or premium items, or for their sushi at Cold Storage.
Supermarket with top notch service
Cold storage is another popular supermarket among the locals and expats in Singapore. With all new and fresh variety of consumption and home products, customers would be assured that they would get the freshest items in this supermaket
As comared to other marts, such as Carrefour and NTUC Fairprice, Cold Storage is at a better notch in terms of service and space concept. However, other than that, some of the items would be costlier than the other marts ( it could be more expensive by a few cents to one or two dollar, at most). And also, some other items would be cheaper in terms of promotions offered to the customers ( bundled items, such as: buy two get one free).
What keeps me coming back to Cold Storage is the service quality and attentiveness provided by the staff. It makes you feel that they card about your product needs. Once I encountered a difficulty to get some confectionary items in Cold Storage Great World City ( the supermarket is quite huge and divided yo plenty of sections) and I approached one of the staff. She kindly directed me to the confectionary section and it was a great help for me as I was also rushing for time. Well, I encountered the same experience in other branches of Cold Storagd too and I got similar pleasant service experience by different staffs.
Cold Storage also provides delivery service to the shoppers at home. I never tried this delivery service before but as far as I know, custoners can log intothe mart website and pick the products online. Once the transaction is submitted, they would deliver the items right to your doorsteps.
For Passion Card mrmbers, you can get special privileges ( discount/ point/ collection) every time you shop at Cold Storage. Just remember to flash your card before you make the payment. In anyway, the cashier would still prompt you if you are Passion Card members before carrying on with the transaction.
Definitely will have what you want
I think Cold Storage is really great! They have so much to offer and I enjoy walking down the aisles and browsing their different varieties.
There is a seafood section where fish, squids, prawns and sometimes crabs are available. The fish are displayed out on ice. I bet it’s quite fresh. They have a roast and grill section too. Porb ribs and whole chickens are available.
My favourite part has gotta be the sushi! They have a wide enough range of sushi for you to pick from. Salmon, egg, crabstick, cucumber, eel.. They have almost all that a sushi restaurant has.
The other departments are the vegetables and fruits, cooked food, canned food, sauces, washing powder, toiletries.. You name it, they have it.
This super market is really big and it definitely has whatever kind of food you’re looking for. Besides the normal Cold Storage, there are also Cold Storage Finest and Cold Storage Specialty. They are really considerate and homely, meeting the needs and wants of everybody!
It may be a little more expensive than other supermarkets but there is some stuff that they don’t offer.
There are many Cold Storage outlets distributed throughout the island too so it’s not difficult one and get whatever you need or want!
I guess this review will only be useful to new expats and tourists living in Singapore. From a locals point of view, and being someone who is not that into the awesome quality of food, I feel that the things sold in Cold Storage are less affordable than those sold in FairPrice and Giant. Yes, there are certain brands which cannot be found in Fairprice and Giant supermarket which can be found in Cold Storage. But besides that, the rest of their items are more likely to be more expensive.
Especially with government rebates and FairPrice membership card, my mother prefers to shop at FairPrice and their freshness is definitely on par or even better than Cold Storage. One thing which Cold Storage has which FairPrice does not have though, would be the cooked meat section. I love buying those roasted teriyaki chicken or honey glazed chicken from Cold Storage.
Will only head to Cold Storage for their roasted meat and to get items that I can't find at FairPrice!
Higher prices but a nicer place to shop at.
It is widely known that Cold Storage sells their produce at a higher price as compared to NTUC, Shop N Save and Sheng Siong. This is not the place if you are looking to save some money on deals. Although they have deals every now and then, I find that the other supermarkets have better and nicer deals. However, I find that the atmosphere of cold storage is nicer, more comfortable and relaxing to shop at as compared to other supermarkets. I do shop there sometimes when I am too lazy to walk over to the other supermarkets. Although prices are steeper, there are some brands that you can only find exclusively at Cold storage. They also have a wider variety of imported goods as compared to their competitors.
One thing about cold storage is that it exudes a clean and fresh vibe. I honestly feel that they are much neater and cleaner than other supermarkets. Lights are bright, floors are clean, the goods are also neatly arranged. My favorite part of cold storage would be the pre-marinated meat! They have ready marinated fresh meat waiting to be bought and cooked at home. It makes cooking so much easier! The marinate tastes really good and not crappy at all. Prices are steep though, 9.50 for 6 pieces of chicken fillet. Service are generally good and staff are polite. In conclusion, this is not a place for bargains but rather a place for shopping for stuff that are not commonly seen in other supermarkets. Of course, if budget is not a problem for you in the long-run, then I would recommend you to get your daily produce from here instead.
