Fantastic Herbal Tea Blends
I first discovered the 1872 Clipper Tea a few months ago at the basement of Tangs Orchard. Being a tea-lover, I was naturally excited when I discovered yet another tea shop. Since there is a European association with the company's name (clipper), I was wondering how it compared with TWG Tea, which also has a European association with its teas.
The first thing I noticed was the 1872 Clipper Tea did not have a huge variety of teas like TWG Tea. Its beverage collection, which comprises tea, herbal teas and blossom teas, is smaller than the tea offerings at a Chinese tea shop like Wang San Yang. The next thing I noticed was that the 1872 Clipper Tea did not try to become a TWG Tea wannabe; instead it differentiated itself by offering a number of herbal tea blends--something that TWG Tea had not ventured deeply into.
Unlike TWG Tea who keeps most of the ingredients of its tea blends secret, the 1872 Clipper Tea is very open about the herbs used in its blends. If you purchase a herbal tea blend with paper packaging, you will see a sticker at the bottom of the packaging listing out the ingredients used in the blend. This is great for two reasons: Firstly, a knowledgeable customer can tell from the ingredients what is the purpose of the blend, e.g. for relaxation, for boosting the immune system. Secondly, if a person is allergic to a certain plant, he or she can avoid the blend altogether.
The 1872 Clipper Tea names its herbal tea blends with very Zen-like names like Morning Dew, Sundown, Peace of Mind and Healing Garden. These Zen-like names coupled with the delicate flavours of the teas give the drinker a feeling of being one with Mother Earth and living in harmony with nature. I especially like Healing Garden because this blend helps to stop the onset of a cold or flu when I or my family start feeling unwell. My family and I drink these herbal teas at night because unlike teas, they do not contain caffeine and hence will not keep us awake at night.
The prices are not cheap, but are very affordable for the man-on-the-street.
I like the herbal tea blends offered by 1872 Clipper Tea very much, and I hope that in the near future, 1872 Clipper Tea will offer more varieties of herbal tea blends for us to enjoy.
