Michael Palmer is an infamous Singapore politician and lawyer. He used to serve as a Member of Parliament whereby he was under People's Action Party. He was originally the Speaker of the House at Parliament. Unfortunately, his career in politics was brought down into shambles after he was exposed as a man involved in an extra-marital affair. The chaos that ensued soon after this exposure urged Michael Palmer to resign his position as both a lawyer and a politician.

Controversial Uproar

A politician, with his entire life under the scrutiny of the public, was catapulated further into the public eye into the mouths of the voracious public when the gossip of his scandal spread like wildfire.

Explicit and disgusting as that sounds, the PAP - being known for its strict discipline and having a track record of only retaining the top-notch candidates - was merciless in its dismissal with Palmer.

His scandal led to a whole controversy about the idea of having foreign talents in the country - I even remember seeing negative comments on the article regarding Palmer's sin asking him to 'go home'. However, while a minority of the foreigners are as such, it is best not to tar all of the foreign talent helping Singapore with the same brush.

Palmer, Palmer, Pants on fire!

Doesn't he look like Bill Clinton? Unlike Bill Clinton, Michael didn't stand before television cameras to categorically deny, "I did not have sex with that woman". He was however on TV, chastised by his boss. Unlike Bill who was a picture of defiance, Michael was contrite. The biggest difference is that Bill had some serious clout unlike Michael who was just another generic cog in the party machinery.

Bad judgement aside, lesson here is, if you want to be a politician to serve the people, don't have a love affair with a woman. Have a love affair with the people you serve, and they will love you back.
