Can I come again, please?
El Patio has apparently been around since 1988 making them veterans in Holland V. One of the worst days to go there would be Friday evenings and weekends because the place would be packed with hungry diners looking for some very excellent Mexican food.
I cannot definitively say if the cuisine served there is authentic Mexican or not but one thing for sure is that the food served is delicious! The decor has a decidedly Mexican flavour to it. The walls are covered in murals that has Mexican themes. Lighting is warm and muted but you are still able to see what you are served. Music tends to have Latin beats to it whether it is rock, dance or even R&B.
Food wise, you get served with nachos and salsa upon arriving. The salsa they serve is divine. It is so good, you would want to drink it down like soup. I also had deep fried Jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese that was very nice but not nice enough to take my attention away from the salsa.
I had a serving of fajitas. The meat is succulent and well-textured. It was done medium, exactly the way I love beef to be cooked. Their tortilla bread is very soft and tastes pretty good on it's own. I was showed the right way to roll my fajitas by the restaurant manager, Jagan who is a very patient and nice guy, despite the demands of running the restaurant at full house.
Some of my friends at my table had margaritas. I, being a teetotaler, had a virgin margarita ie. margarita minus the booze. As the night wore on, my friends who drink, graduated to tequila shots. El Patio has some of the most coveted brands of tequila in their bar, a shot of their best can be had for $30 a shot.
It's a nice restaurant to go to to have a good, casual night out. Lovey-dovey couples looking for privacy should stay clear. Others are more than welcome there.
