Luxury fit for Kings
When my mother received a free 1-night stay at the St. Regis Singapore, I had no idea what to expect. After spending a night in this 'palace', I can never look at my home the same again.
Maybe it's just me, but I was taken aback by the mere class of the hotel when I stepped through it's doors. Up in the room, my mother explained to me that there was a butler that would bring up hot chocolate and tea at your request. I was truly baffled by the services the hotel made available in order to make their customers feel completely at ease. The bathroom felt so royal, which the decor that looks like it was modeled after the Queen's own bathroom. There was even a television inside where you could take a bath while enjoying a football match. Which was exactly what I did.
All in all, I checked out with a yearning to come back and every time I did, it always felt the same.
I'll be back.
The experience starts right at the beginning. Instead of e traditional jostling at the lobby when checking in, Guests are offered comfy seats to sit in while the staff does the check-in. The numerous pieces of art that was displayed all around the lobby was also a great distraction from the usual awkward waiting.
The staff serving us on that day was simply fantastic. Not only did she offer the breakfast package to us, which was not included in our room charge, she also explained in great detail how it would really be a great deal including everything that was bundled into the breakfast package. She also informed us of complimentary usage of Remede Spa and the wine tasting session at Decanter Bar. This is a far cry from many other hotels, which seem to want to discourage their guests from enjoying their facilities.
The room was comfy and tastefully decorated. It sure helps a lot when the butler came and introduced us to every aspect of the room. As I wanted to play some of my own music instead of the music that the hotel provided, the butler also taught us how to operate the sound system. Coffee and tea is on the house and you do not even have to make it yourself. Just a push of the button on the phone would connect you to their butler service and your refreshment will arrive, served in exquisite chinaware.
The wine experience at Decanter was amazing. although we were pretty late, the sommelier still entertained us patiently, even recommending wines based on our preference. The nibbles that were offered along with the wine included cheese, grapes and apricots, and many other little item that I did not recognize.
We returned to the room to found that the chambermaid has been in to turndown the bed. As part of the turndown service, we got a box of chocolate and a bottle of water each placed on the counter next to our bedside. A nice touch as it eliminates the need for us to even get out of bed.
The spa was deserving of the many accolades that they received. Using it left me refreshed and more eager to take on yet another tough day right after the experience.
The experience was worth every penny spent.
