Wonderful wedding experience
I had my wedding at Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom in June 2013 and had a two nights stay in their Junior Suite complete with two days of complementary breakfasts and room service credit.
The location was definitely a great one, right in the middle of Orchard Road and easily reached by both public transport and for guests who drive. Service throughout my 1 year of wedding planning was also great with the wedding coordinator guiding me through all aspects of the banquet. The banquet manager was also very professional and experienced, guiding me through the two banquet walk ins and ensuring smooth flow of the evening.
After the tiring full day of wedding activities, the suite was simply heavenly, with plenty of space (living area and sleeping area) and a huge comfortable bed. The view was amazing as well, facing out to Ion Orchard and the busy street. Despite facing the street, it wasn't noisy at all. So that's a plus point too.
Overall I had a great experience with the hotel.
Just look at that price? Expect to pay SGD400++ for the most basic room at the Marriott Hotel thanks to its recent revamp.
It's lobby is very basic and i do not see any old glamour or splendor but i do love the fact that it is very conveniently located, right in the heart of Orchard road. This should also be a very popular hotel since it is house in the same building as Tangs, the old house of Tangs or C.K Tang, the departmental store with such great rich amazing history that old folks(foreigners included) i have met only have amazing things to say about the store. The old chinese roof is also arguably one of the tallest chinese roof in the world and you can even see it from Mount Faber. This is definitely an iconic hotel/building.
The rooms are also very spacious thanks to the fact that it is an old hotel that underwent plastic surgery. Shoebox rooms/apartments were not in fashion back then. The toilets are HUGE, both for the standard room and the suite that i have stayed in.
The lifts are however a little old and i can still smell some old vibes from this madame. They should perhaps learn a little from Hyatt, which underwent cosmetic surgery and turned out amazing.
Situated at a convenient and accessible location, mere minutes from ION Orchard, one of my favourite shopping spots, Marriott Hotel emanates resplendence and grandeur.
The lobby was opulent, with a hint at décor inspiration derived from centuries past. Even the doorman was dressed somewhat like an English butler. Furnished with thick carpets and mahogany coloured fixtures, the hotel was simply splendid. I half expected to see women with elaborate hairdos and attired in exquisite gowns sweeping past and felt slightly abashed and out of place in my plain T-shirt and jeans. Fortunately, all the other patrons inside were dressed similar to myself, and I was put at ease.
The room was comfortable, befitting of a five-star hotel. Too fatigued to venture out of the hotel but also rather averse to the idea of staying cooped up in my hotel room all day, I was faced with a dilemma. I eventually had to make a call and decided to curl up in the comfortable sofas on the second floor to read. The ambiance there was peaceful and serene, and the music played was tastefully picked out, providing a soothing backdrop to a day of rest and relaxation, yet not noticeable enough to interfere with my reading.
I enjoyed my stay at Marriott Hotel immensely.
