Whilst cycling around Ang Mo Kio recently, I happened to stop by the hawker centre behind Ang Mo Kio Library for some refreshments. Being a hot day, me and my friend naturally gravitated towards sugar cane at the first stall selling it there, in this case being this particular stall.
I found the quality of sugarcane pretty average, and it came as a surprise to see this listing. My order, being a large sugar cane juice with a zest of lemon, was not full of flavour and tasted quite bland. Though i have to give the drink credit in really freshening me up, I did not enjoy it as much as I would a sugarcane drink.
My reasons for why i would classify it as average is due to it lacking some points that will make it stand out above the rest.
Firstly, the quality of the drink. I understand that the drink is not as sweet, but when you drink sugarcane juice, it should be sweet to taste right. Moreover, as long as only sugarcane is used in production, the sweetness such be alright as it is wholly natural sugars which are good for your body. Hence, I disapprove of 'less sweet' versions of sugar cane drinks.
Secondly, I feel that the lemon used is not that fresh. A wholly fresh lemon would give out a strong burst that can be felt immediately upon the first taste. However, the burst of lemon was not strong enough hinting that the lemon may not be optimally ripe yet.
However, I have to give credit to the stall owners. The service was good with the uncle smilingly asking me to drink more as it is a hot day and I was sweating profusely. Moreover, the owners are hardworking and gave off an air of efficiency as they worked that impressed me.
One cup of sugar cane juice with lemon please!
This is one of the best sugarcane juice that I have ever had. Despite countless of advice from others that sugarcane has really high sugar content, I am unable to restrain myself from my all time favourite drink, especially not with Singapore’s humid weather.
I love the stall for its freshly prepared sugar cane juice with every order! Furthermore, it is clear that no other sugar has been added to the drink, unlike some other stalls.
For $1.30, the serving size is moderately large and the addition of lemon only requires 20cents more.
In my opinion, it is definitely worth it! All sugarcane fans shouldn't miss this!
