Men-ichi Japanese Ramen Hot
Men-ichi’s rich tonkotsu soup derives its wonderful essence from a perfect balance of pork bones, chicken bones and vegetables. The soup is first boiled for over 12 hours, during which the fire is carefully tended and scum meticulously skimmed off the water’s surface. Men-ichi uses 100% homemade noodles specially created using an original recipe.

So much better than Ajisen.
Situated at Nex, with numerous black and white cat statues lining the wall, I was initially hesitant to enter it as it felt mildly creepy to have cats staring down at me while I ate.
However, I was sure glad I entered because I discovered one of my favourite ramen stores in Singapore here. I ordered the Paitan Tonkotsu Ramen ($13.50) and was pleasantly surprised by the springy texture of the noodles, and the smooth and creamy pork broth. Apparently, the soup is even rich in collagen. So slurp up! Surprisingly, what really stole my heart was not their ramen, but their Yakimeshi. Do not belittle its existence and dismiss it as “just fried rice”, the small little bowl was bursting with delicious wok hei flavour. Or maybe just MSG, I don’t know. All I know is that it tastes goooood.
From what I hear, Men-ichi has weekday lunch sets that allow you to get a bowl of ramen with a small bowl of rice at an extremely affordable price of $10.90-$12.90, depending on what you order. So do drop by Nex to try it if you have the chance!
Great Ramen, Great Desserts
Men-Ichi is pretty much the only ramen restaurant in Northpoint at the moment, not counting Ishi Mura, which is a Japanese foodcourt. Whenever I feel like having something more fancy, I usually head here.
Their ramen bowls are pretty affordable as compared to other places and their side dishes are good too. I especially like their Shio ramen range. The broth is not too salty but still tasty. When paired with char siew pieces, the resulting flavour can only be described as a mild kind of heavenly.
Another highlight of the menu is their desserts. They have a good range of ice cream sets consisting of ice cream scoops, pocky sticks, cornflakes and chocolate sauce! All these go really well together. The ambience here is cosy and relaxing, a good place for catch-up sessions with good friends! The service too, is prompt and pleasant.
Overall, I quite like this place and hope they remain in Northpoint for a long time :)
A cut above the rest
Located at Shokutsu 10 at Nex shopping mall, Men-ichi serves one of the better ramens in Singapore. It is a small setup and is usually very packed and crowded in the evenings. My friend and I had to settle for a place at the bar. As it is very cramped, we do not have a good place to place our bags and they do not provide small stools or other alternatives like Yoshimaru Ramen Bar.
I've order the Tonkutsu Ramen($13.80) and Gyoza. The ramen is excellent. Their soup is rich and flavourful and I like how it is not too oily nor salty. The char shew has a good mix of fat and meat, but others may not like to eat the fatty part. Their noodle is okay, springy and taste like handmade noodles. The gyoza arrived when we were about to finish the ramen and I almost forgotten about it. The fillings are nice but the skin is not nicely grilled and there are some parts where it is soft and sticky.
Service is the norm but points should be given to the girl who served us as she was very very polite and sweet. I would definitely return for whenever I have a craving for ramen.
weekday lunch set
When NEX shopping mall just started, I was attracted by the Yokoso Japan, there are many Japanese Restaurants and Men-ichi is one of them. Their weekday lunch set advertisement is the one that caught my eye. I’m someone who likes set lunch, without a second thought I went in and have lunch.
The environment is quiet, there are a lot of fortune cat, black and white, as decorations. My favourite is Shoyu Ramen with Yakimeshi (fried rice). Their seasoned egg is really nice, soft and the seasoning makes the egg fragrant. The soup is also aromatic and is not oily.
