Authentic Japanese Ice Cream
I love their matcha ice cream. Having tried the one in Japan, I can safely say that the taste is exactly the same. Their milk ice cream is also worth a shot! They used to have Hot Balls - 4 Pancake Balls with a scoop of ice cream, drizzled with honey. It was so so good, but they've since removed it from the menu sadly :(
Nevertheless, their ice cream is top-notch, so I don't mind paying a bit more. It's around $4.50 a scoop, but they're really generous and it's interesting to see how they shape it into that unique triangular shape atop the square cone.
BEST CHICKEN WINGS EVER
You can find many good and decent ice cream cafes in Singapore, and I expected Haato to be just another cafe that served good ice cream, and that it would just be added to my list of nice ice cream cafes. However I was absoultely WRONG. Haato has the best ice cream and snacks ever! Haato is strangely tucked away in a condominium around Mt Sinai, quite remotely located, but 101% definitely worth a visit.
I visited Haato one evening after my dinner and I was brought there by a friend. I was strangely attracted to the chicken wings on the menu, so I ordered the 3 piece set while my friend ordered a scoop of chocolate banana ice cream. Her ice cream came first, and when I tried a small spoonful, I immediately fell in love with it! It was chocolatey enough, and still had a good kick of bananas to it. And the good food didn't stop there! My chicken wings arrived crispy and hot, and the first bite into it was heavenly. The chicken wings were flavourful, moist and succulent! I would confidenlty say, the best chicken wings I have ever eaten. Additionally, the 3 piece set was actually in reality, 6 pieces of delicious heaven because the wing and the drumlet were separated, and the sizes of each part weren't small either! I felt it was a good deal for $7.90. I can't wait to go back for more!
It was a hot day in the City and Hubbs and me were craving for something cold and sweet to cool us down . We walked past Haato & Co and did a double take to scan through their offerings. Green Tea Gelato! Seeing the mutual nod of agreement in each other's eyes, Hubbs wasted no time in ordering.
The two young men manning the shop were so engrossed in their talking that they didn't even notice us standing there until we cleared our throats unanimously. They seemed startled to see us but wasted no time in serving us. We walked out 5 minutes later with our sweet treat in hand.
The Green Tea gelato was quite simply put, out of this world. It was not too sweet with a tiny hint of bitterness. We were barely 25 steps away from the store that we were already wiping our mouths and licking our fingers. It tended to melt pretty fast though. We would like to think it was the weather that made us gobble it up so quickly. So was it the weather or just greed us? >_<
We'll be back for more, Haato's!
Excellent, potentially the best ice cream place in Singapore.
Seeing as how this listing is still accepting reviews, I'm inclined to think that Haato is somewhat underrated. Perhaps only few would agree with me when I say that it's potentially one of the best ice cream chains in Singapore. I absolutely love Haato, and I think it's on par with, if not way better than, with the likes of Marble Slab (another personal favourite of mine) and the severely overrated and overpriced Cold Stone Creamery.
My personal favourites are their yuzu sorbet, lychee sorbet, and green tea (or is it matcha?) ice cream. Other flavours are great too but these three are the best in my personal opinion. I usually order two flavours in a cup at 5.50, which I think is quite a reasonable price given the amount they serve. I don't ever order their cones or waffles (though I probably should one day, seeing as how some of the reviewers below have praised their waffles) because I want to enjoy the unadulterated taste of the sorbet/ice cream alone. I usually visit the outlet near the Ellenborough Market Cafe, and there's nothing better than enjoying a nice, big cup of ice cream in the peacefully quiet Clarke Quay of mid-afternoon, where only few people stroll by now and then.
For fans of ice cream who've had just about enough with the thick, creamy (and cloying) variety served by many ice cream chains, Haato's offerings provide a good respite for the taste buds. Flavours like my three favourites don't ever cloy but instead refresh the palate, and are excellent as after-dinner dessert. Green tea lovers will thoroughly enjoy the robust flavour of their green tea ice cream, and citrus lovers like myself will delight in the cool, refreshing, light taste of their yuzu sorbet.
Just get their waffles and gelato. Forget the food.
I don't know what went over us to order hot food and not their waffles. My friends and I were at the outlet at Thomson Plaza. After some pancakes we decided to go all the way and stuff in some more food. Then we passed by haato, initially wanting gelato.
Then when we saw the menu, we decided to order their hot food of a hot dog with a side of fries and soup that came with the set. The soup was well, canned. And horrible. Even my friends who were not food connoisseurs or experienced in any form of cooking, could tell. And then goodness. The hotdog came hell of a time to arrive, i even wondered if they were stuffing the dogs on the spot.
Even when the hotdogs came, nothing much to say about it. Though the gelato was excellent, to be honest.
Rum and Raisin!
My favourite gelato store of all time!
I love their wide range of interesting and unique flavours such as milk tea, rock melon and different kinds of sorbet!
Personally I am a big fan of rum and raisin, thus I am rather particular about it. So far, it has not disappointed me.
I must praise that their milk-based ice cream is not too creamy and neither is it overly sweet. In my opinion, it is just perfect! I never felt queasy even after eating a big scoop all by myself.
I don't mind confessing that I’m greedy when it comes to Haato and Co., because it’s worth it!
Furthermore, it is no doubt, that they are really generous with the serving.
I used to frequent the branch at Nex, but it closed down.
They used to offer me many flavours to try, without pushing me to buy any. Their attentive staff were always full of smiles and they never failed to make my day. Overall, fantastic experience!
GREAT WAFFLES!! :D
I went to the branch at Ridgewood Close. I have to say, this is the best branch out of the rest. The ambience is quite nice, overlooking a swimming pool from the next door condo. Water is served free of charge and service is good! My friend was sitting alone at the table and the waiter came to pour water for her. He even went on to ask her how many people will be joining there and he poured another 3 glasses of water.
The most notable item here is the waffles. I only ever come here for the waffles. I've heard that their hot items are not really up to par so I've never tried them. We had 2 waffles with ice cream. Hazelnut and chocolate gelato. They were creamy and although the ice cream melted while we were eating, the waffles remained crispy. I'm really curious as to how they make it so crispy! This is certainly the best place for waffles in Singapore!!
I remember stealing a bite of waffles from my friend. That was the second Haato experience that i could remember. Totally forgot the first.
The waffles weren't soggy at all and they were actually crispy on the outside and done nicely on the inside. I hate soggy wet waffles like the insides haven't been cooked properly.
The next time I got Haato icecream was from the one at clarke quay. Alfresco & super nice place to sit and have icecream because of the design of the shops, matching of the colours and the fact that it is sort of by the river. I had green tea with red bean flavoured icecream.
It was really refreshing even after a full meal- didn't make me feel like gagging. The red beans added to the sweetness since the matcha icecream wasn't even sweet at all (for a sweet tooth like me). The icecream melts really fast but they are very generous with the serving. :)
As you strut down the streets of Clarke Quay approaching Riverside Point, your eyes would beg for a second glance at the gelato ice-cream shack- Haato &co!
With unique cones that have a square-shaped base, you’ll be spoilt for choice to choose what ice-cream to fill it with! If you’re looking for that extra edge in your chocolate flavor, you will do well to choose chocolate mint! Besides giving a rich chocolate taste, the mint-flavor will make its presence felt across your whole tongue, giving that refreshing feeling. Otherwise, you could try the all-time favorite cookies and cream, where it gives you the chance to nibble at your chocolate bits while enjoying the sweetness of the ice cream.
The pricing was really fair and understandable. A single cone with one scoop would cost $4.50. But simply top up a dollar and you get to add one more scoop with another flavor! Portions served were just right- it would look like you are carrying a mini torch with the total height of the ice cream piled on top of one another! Totally worth that epic camera shot.
Besides ice cream, they do have waffles- banana chocolate or strawberry flavored, for a reasonable $8.50 each. Scrumptious and reasonably-priced, this Japanese ice-cream brand deserves a good visit!
Love at first taste
I first knew about Haato when I walked by their outlet in Serangoon Gardens. It was a hot day, and I had just finished my tennis lesson. Craving for something cold, I looked over at Haato’s and found my favourite treat- ice cream with waffles. The scoop of chocolate ice cream I ordered was offered in generous proportions, and the waffles were thick and baked to the right consistency- soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Golden brown, just the way I like my waffles. Their ice cream is made with only the freshest ingredients, fresh full cream milk. What I like most about Haato’s ice cream and waffles is that the sweetness is just right. Some ice creams are simply too sweet; but Haato’s is just right, allowing me to indulge in this pleasure.
