I scream NO!
I was being drawn to this café after being tagged on Facebook by a friend on a list of places-to-go for ice cream. “I scream” was at the top of the list and it’s hard to miss the article introduction of it with its ice cream displayed on a super cool roulette look-alike fridge.
After drooling behind the screen for a few days, I finally headed over to “I scream” after a hearty meal at the famous block 85. Sad to say, it was a huge disappointment.
I was so excited when I first saw the “roulette” with my own eyes and I just couldn’t resist snapping up photos - it definitely scored a huge plus for creativity. But the disappointment came with just one sample taste of the ice cream. We sampled the durian, tiramisu, mocha flavours and they all had one thing in common – artificial. They tasted more like a mixture of chemicals spammed with sugar.
I gave up trying and after much struggling, we ordered a plain waffle with 2 scoops of ice cream – crunchy chocolate and mocha. Price was alright, costing around $9.90 in total. Lucky for me, I kind of like the crunchy chocolate ice cream but the waffle was very average and i didn't like the mocha ice cream flavour. It’s the first time I stopped at 5 bites for ice cream.
Atmosphere and service was good and they have promotions for students during weekdays as well. Sadly, as I’m no longer a student and the ice cream doesn’t appeal to me, I wouldn’t go back for more.
Not fantastic but worth a try!
Located a stone's throw away from Bedok 85, I visited iScream after my dinner. Its store design is very 'hipster' and rather out-of-place in the heartlands area, but it is nevertheless a nice and cozy shop.
I like that iScream has a pay-as-you-weigh concept where you pay based on the weight of the ice cream rather than a predetermined size. Charged at 3.5 cents per gram, I feel less cheated with this system haha. I tried their Rum and Raisin, Durian, as well as Chocolate with Marshmallow. The Rum and Raisin stood out with its punchy, refreshing alcoholic taste. I am a huge fan of durian-flavoured anything and this was pretty good to me. Pales in comparison to the durian ice cream at udders but still good! The Chocolate with Marshmallow was average.
Nevertheless, if you are sick of the dessert stalls at Bedok 85, pop by iScream for a good switch!
