Authentic Japanese experience

After seeing so many instagram photos of Tatsuya's sushi and bentos, I knew I had to give this place a visit!!! Booked seats in advance because if you turn up without booking, be prepared to get turned down. Seats are limited and the restaurant isn't spacious at all.

Upon arrival, my friends and I were ushered to the counter seats. The counter seats here are very different from other Japanese restaurants. The counter is really low so you can not only see whatever the chef is doing but also look at the fresh slabs of fish, scallops, prawns... I would highly recommend taking the counter seats over the table seats!

I ordered a Chirashi don bento set which consists of a Chirashi don, chawanmushi, agedaeshi tofu, salad, miso soup and fruits. The food took about 20 minutes or so to arrive so this is another reason why you should take the counter seats - you will be entertained by the sushi chef's skills and all the ongoing action because your phone will experience a sucky data reception in here :P

The chawanmushi isn't your normal kind of chawanmushi. It's orange/yuzu flavor (can't make out what it is but its tangy/zesty-ish) and frankly, I didn't like it too well. It tasted really odd to me... However, the texture of the chawanmushi is one of the best I have tasted. It's SUPER silky and smooth. Onto the chirashi don, the chewy rice is topped with four different types of sashimi cuts (salmon/ swordfish/ tuna/ yellowtail) and a generous sprinkle of pearly translucent fish roe. Really generous. The rice is really good, it was chewy, of the right stickiness and goes really well with the sashimi cuts. The miso soup, salad and fruits were alright.

In total, I paid $42 for my lunch set after service tax and GST. I would say its very worth it considering the quality and quantity of the food you're getting. Location is convenient, service is great and the chefs speak Japanese - there's nothing more authentic than that :) Enjoyed my meal so much and I would highly recommend everyone to try!
