love their affordable, jumbo-sized curry rice
My boyfriend and I are huge fans of Japanese curry rice, but in Singapore most Japanese curries are a far cry from the authentic taste and texture. We had high hopes for GOEN, known for their gigantic portions and pocket-friendly menu.
We were originally set on their Big Size Curry Rice ($19.80), but later decided against it and ordered a Double Tonkatsu Original Curry Rice ($11.90) with an additional Potato Croquette ($1.20). Their portions were indeed huge, and between the two of us we could barely finish all the food. The deep-fried meats were juicy, tender, and had a crunchy breaded crust. Their curry was very rich and very close to the authentic taste of Japanese curry, although I would have preferred it to be a little thicker.
GOEN is definitely serves one of the better Japanese curries in Singapore, and it’s a steal for the quantities they serve. Possibly my favourite place to get my Japanese curry fix, hopefully they’ll open more outlets in the heartlands too!
