Not great but still nice :)
In today inflationary times, the chicken rice here is good and cheap at $2.50-$3.00. For that amount, you can get a plate of chicken rice and a bowl of soup. Certainly more satisfying than a fast food hamburger set meal, which is more than $3, of course.
The rice here is fragrant and light, not too oily with just the right balance of chicken flavour from the stock and chicken fat used to cook it. It also comes with salted vegetables which is a nice touch. The deboned chicken makes eating the dish a fuss free, no mess affair. My usual favourite - the white chicken, is juicy and somewhat bouncy and not those that melt in your mouth type. And of course, the all important chilli sauce has just the right spicy kick which you can add with grated ginger and dark sauce.
I read reviews from others elsewhere who condemn this stall till it's like the worst thing they have ever eaten. While the dish offered here is vastly different from Tian Tian at Maxwell, for example, I believe each should be assessed by it's own merits. And as in other popular stalls, be prepared to queue for your order here...
The stall also serves various side orders like deep fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce (ala Thai style), hgoh hiang (deep fried meat spring roll) , blanched beansprouts, etc which you order to enhance your meal. Each order of a plate of chicken rice ($2.50-$3.00), a side order (about $3) and a bowl of soup (complimentary) will just set you back about $6...certainly inflationary busting budget.
Have a great meal at TBHBCR...hahaha,,,pardon my acronym (^__^)
