Good pasta at good prices
I didn't really expect much from Mien because it was housed in a hawker centre. However, upon closer inspection of the many hanging awards, I began to have doubts. So, I ordered myself some Carbonara with extra bacon and was pleasantly surprised.
The bacon was genuine and bursting with salty porky goodness. They were in generous bite-sized chunks and it went very well with the cream sauce which was not overly rich. Upon subsequent visits, I had just pasta done al dente with olive oil and I must say, it's delicious! There was no need for meat or cream, as one could be satisfied with just the flavor of the impeccably timed pasta.
It has, sadly, either moved or closed.
Ambience rating is 1 because it's a hawker centre =D
Great price for good pasta
The pasta here is really worth the price! I mean, where else can you get Carbonara for 4 bucks? I've only ever ordered Carbonara because it's my favourite pasta. I looove cream sauce and plenty of cheese. I wouldn't say it's the best pasta ever, but it is pretty good and definitely worth it for the price.
HOWEVER, the stall seems to have moved! I couldn't find it anywhere in Bukit Timah market when I last visited recently. Some fans on its Facebook page say it's moved to Golden Shoe Carpark but it's not been verified... Hello, uncle? Where did you go!
Good pasta at a relatively low price
This pasta store do serves really good and cheap pastas. The price is very affordable, which costs about $3-$4 per plate of pasta. I like to order their Carbonara pasta, as it is cream-based. The store owner, whom is also the chef himself is very friendly and cooks restaurant quality pasta. Before setting up his store, he used to be Meritus Mandarin Chef in the past. For the pasta that is served, the base is not too thick and not too watery (it is just right), and the pasta is not over-cooked. Upon ordering at his store, he cooks the pasta and is served within 2 to 3 minutes. So, do not worry about having a long waiting time even though there might be a long queue at times.
You should try out this store the price is not too expensive and worth the money, as the pasta portion that is served is not little (just right for a person’s share). Other than cream-based pasta, he also do sell Aglio Olio and Bolognaise Style Pasta too. I have never tried these two kinds of pasta as I am more of a cheese and cream-based pasta fan. Believe me, you will not be disappointed at the pasta/s that he cooks!
