Beware: Bad quality!
Classy designs, elegant looks, decent tastes. I thought I had found my sweet spot in retail shopping. And for the kind of prices which are in general higher than H&M even with sales, I was led to believe in its quality too. But after joining its membership and buying around ten pieces, I have vowed not to return to it ever again.
A pair of nice sleek short pants, the zipper was extremely difficult to zip up and was skewed on the very first day. At the time I was rushing for something and the zipper stubbornly refused to oblige and I was helplessly stuck in the lady's room. I thought it was a one-time bad apple in the batch and my bad luck was to blame, until the long office pants I just bought gave way on its debut day as well. What happened was, I crouched, it cracked, leaving a big slit gaping behind. I wanted to blame my butt for being too fat but wait, how come all my other cheaper pants never had any of such problems when I crouched, jumped, kicked, and zumba-danced? To be fair, a few dresses I bought from G2000 are still holding up but I have no faith in it with such failure rate anymore. And I regret paying such high price for pieces of crap.
So, if you just couldn't turn away from its deceivingly good looks, watch out for the stitches and zippers. I simply don't have the superpower to judge the quality of stitches before they crack wide open and laugh at me, so I choose the safer way: stay away from G2000.
Great Place to Shop for Affordable Office Clothes
G2000 has been around for decades. This is one of the stores I patronise regularly for my office clothes.
My first visit to G2000 was when I was a teenager. That was a very long time ago. At that time, G2000 created a very bad impression on me. The salesgirls were chit-chatting loudly with one another and ignored the customers even though the customers asked them questions. I boycotted their stores for nearly 10 years.
G2000 didn't come to my radar again until I went shopping with 2 friends who are fashion snobs. When I say 'fashion snobs' I don't mean they make friends with only people who wear branded clothes; it means they respect people who take the trouble to look nice and dress in smartly and decently--no 'ah beng ah lian' looks. These 2 friends brought me to G2000, which they sometimes patronise, and that was when I realised that the stores went through a major transformation since my 'absence'.
When I entered the stores, I was greeted by the salespeople nearest the entrance with friendly smiles. The clothes looked nice and were affordable. What really grabbed my attention were the shirts. They made me look very chic and came in a variety of very beautiful and tasteful colours and patterns. I became a convert.
Other than the shirts, I also buy blouses, cardigans and suits from G2000. I am very fussy about suits, and I find many of their suits not to my liking. But occasionally, I can find some winners. Once, I bought 2 suits from them at one go--and became eligible to be their member.
Now, many of my office clothes come from G2000, and most of them have remained with me till today. A friend once shared that G2000 clothes are not of good quality--they look old after many washes. I agree. The secret to keep the G2000 clothes (not the suits) looking new is to wash them gently. This means you either need to hand-wash them, or have good washing machines that are able to treat the clothes gently. Good washing-machines I know are the expensive ones--Thomson and Whirlpool. Suits need to be dry-cleaned.
For people who are going to join the workforce, I recommend G2000 as one of the great places to shop for office clothes as the clothes are very classic and the prices are very affordable.
Classic And Affordable Business Wear
G2000, which stands for Generation 2000, is a trendy unisex clothing store that carries both formal business clothes and casual clothes. For men, the G2000 brand represents classic and affordable business wear, and is popular amongst the young working executives.
Although designs at G2000 at rotated every season, you generally can't stray too far from the classic look. As G2000 designs are catered for the masses, don't expect to find unique, identity-expressing clothing here.
When I'm not tailoring my formal business clothes, I usually purchase them from G2000. What I like about the formal business clothes at G2000 is the extensive range they have. Shirts tend to be in bright, solid colours, which I like, and trousers typically have a series of patterns on them instead of being just plain.
Another plus point for the formal business clothes from G2000 is their wrinkle-free material. This makes ironing their clothing so much easier! A formal business long sleeve shirt costs about SGD $19 - $70, while a formal business trousers costs about SGD $30 - $80.
While I like the clothing from G2000, I dislike their belt designs, which I feel are rather old and outdated in terms of fashion.
When G2000 phases out their old designs, all remaining stock will be put on sale, typically at half the normal prices. These 'old' stock will be removed from all normal G2000 stores, and re-located to be sold in G2000 sale outlets. In Singapore, there are only 2 such G2000 sale outlets, located in Anchorpoint and Changi City Point. Go there for good deals on their clothes!
Smart-Looking Formal Clothes
G2000 is a place for affordable corporate wear and office-workers nowadays that just want to get a few clothing and look decent at work. The designs in the store is nothing much special from most shops that would offer the standard colors of corporate wear and my favorite selection was the formal coats and western jackets which creates a very stylish and cool look for guys that is going to head down for a wedding, red carpet, presentation, a speech talk, and many more that can add charisma towards them.
The designs were very simple, and yet affordable which should not be a problem for those that are new towards working in a office or some high-class retail stores, they can always look out for G2000. The customer service is fine and friendly, they offer to help me take a look at which formal coating really fits me despite me trying over 7 different ones and couldn't make up my mind.
G2000 caters to the middle income group with suits that looks presentable and yet not too expensive as compared to a tailor made or a high end store. The designs are simple and can be easily matched with your pencil skirts or a blazer. Even though it is cheaper, the quality of the cloth used is not compensated. The staffs are friendly and helpful. I bought a blazer from them recently as I need to wear one during a project presentation. The cutting is normal and quality is great for the price that I paid, which is about $100. An overall thumbsup!
Is this from G2000? I have the same one!
G2000 is a very safe option if you are looking for daily corporate wear, or going for a formal job interview. The quality of the clothes is, without a doubt, good. They also stock sizes from 32 to 42, so the fit is satisfactory. The price range is pretty reasonable for the quality, but if you think that the prices are a tad too steep, you may want to visit their outlets or wait for their end-of-season sales.
One shortfall is that their clothes are too common. G2000 shops are ubiquitous in malls. When you talk about corporate wear, G2000 is the first brand that comes to mind. Chances are, you may end up wearing the same shirt or dress as your colleague or a passerby in Shenton Way. Also, I feel that the design of the clothes are too boring. It is a cheaper alternative to brands such as Zara and Massimo Dutti. But if you are looking to up your style factor in office, G2000 is definitely not the best option.
A subsidiary of the Giodano franchise, I am sure that this brand is by no means foreign to the majority of the singaporean population. It is well known as being the place to go to to get the cheapest deals on corporate wear that are trendy, fitting and still relatively affordable. Although the label might sound too mainstream for those seeking to find a little more spunk in the mundane corporate clothing, it is still a safe option for the more conservative dressers.
Stepping into G2000, there are many classic things that are available. Most of them, at discounted prices would be really cheap as to the ones that are in other stores. In comparison, the fit might not be the best out there but it is still do-able. While looking for the clothing for a job, I am sure that you does not want to spend too much on the outfits especially when you're not even getting paid yet!
I would opt for the plain coloured shirts and pants, or the neatly altered skirts because they are easier to match as compared to the patterned ones. Also, they have a small variety of corporate wear that varies with the season. The blazers and shirts too have different cuttings that they might look similar in some sense but still have different trimmings. It is a great alternative when looking for the emergency work wear, for the job opening tomorrow or the internship opportunity.
Decent store to get your corporate wear.
Initially, before I started shopping for corporate wear in G2000, I thought the apparels there could be expensive and it is only for the high class corporate. But when I stepped into the store, I was pleasantly surprised and amazed at the wide range of corporate wear. And coincidentally, I went to the store during the right time because they were having a big sales and promotions.
I got 2 pair of pants and 2 pairs of blouses. And those costs me below $100, in addition of credit card promotion and the extra discount that I get after I scan the barcode on my phone and flashed it the staffs it was a great shopping.
The pants are really comfortable with stylish and trendy looking. It's very durable and I simply love them! Unfortunately, the same thing does not apply to the top. The material is very difficult to iron and it's not too comfortable for me to wear. The material is kind of stiff and there is no much room to move around freely.
Aside from the corporate wear, G2000 also offers a wide variety of shoes and heels. The price are quite reasonable as well. If you would want to purchase more corporate wear, you could always check this store out. Be reminded to ask for any credit card promotions for a better deal.
Affordable corporate wear
I like how G2000 creates such affordable corporate wear that is so functional and wearable but yet so affordable.
I have to dress formally for presentations at school and G2000 is the first place i would head to if i require a new corporate outfit. Since I don’t wear them everyday, I wouldn’t want to pay a huge sum for it. However, since i’ll be wearing them to school, I would be wearing them for the whole day, plus the fact that I would be presenting in it, i would want them to be soft and breathable and comfortable. G2000 manages to incorporate all these elements to create a series of corporate attires that fits the contours of a female so properly.
Their clothes are really versatile, many of which can bring you from the office in the morning to a nice chill out session in the night. Also, their designs are nice and simple where you can pair them with your favourite accessories.
Shopping over at G2000 is a really pleasant experience as the sales people make the make the extra effort to pay attention to details. They make genuine comments about the fit of the apparel: whether or not you should alter it, what shoes to match it with and so on. They even provide shoes at the side for you to try on the properly measure the length of pants to alter off.
All in all, G2000 really has all the elements of a garment store, from service to the material of their apparel.
formal wear shopping
G2000 is a well-known local brand great for formal wear. Nothing garish, edgy or trendy here. What they sell are the classic never out of style office wear that everyone will invest in at one point of time in life.
For the males, there is a good selection of well-cut blazers available in different prints, materials and thickness. The striped prints serves as a nice alternative to plain blazers. Shirts come in different cuttings, colors, materials as well!! But they all fall under the same category of formal shirts. Belts are available for sale as well. For females, there are well-cut blazers, shirts, pencil skirts and trousers available for sale. I got a blazer there during a sale and it was slightly less than $50. It's a good deal considering the good quality of the blazer. Fully inner-lined and comfortable material. G2000 sells footwear as well but I did not particularly like it.
As the reviewer below mentioned, prices are indeed steep. But it would be a wise choice to invest in a set of good quality formal outfit as you won't know when you will need it! For the working adults, you can get your money's worth by wearing it long-term. The cost will then be totally justified :)
