A day for me to make-up to my Muslim friends.
Hari Raya Puasa is preceded by a month of fasting for Muslims. I must admit that as a non-Muslim, I often forget that. Too often, I would innocently ask a Muslim friend to join me for lunch, or eat a delicious meal in front of a fasting friend and only realize my mistake after seeing him eyeing my food hungrily.
I always feel terrible after a mistake and will take Hari Raya Puasa as a day to make up for it. Most Muslims break fast on that day and will spend it visiting each other. When visiting them, I will always make sure to bring their favorite treats and if possible, bring them out for a meal soon after.
Living in Singapore together with so many races can have its challenges, but taking steps to get past them brings us closer as a community.
