Interesting twist on tradition
The Chinese Wedding Shop is the one-stop shop if you are having a Chinese wedding. Most Chinese, including myself, would like to have a traditional Chinese wedding but might lack the knowledge of the intricacies involved in holding one. Fret not for The Chinese Wedding Shop is coming to your rescue!
The staff are all very knowledgeable and are able to enlighten couples on the traditions and rituals involved in holding a Chinese ceremony. And not just that, all the items necessary can be purchased from the shop itself and the couple does not have to run around Chinatown to search high and low for them. Most products also have a modern twist to them with cartoons of couples being printed, perfect for the modern Chinese couple. Of course, the traditional ones are also available for those who are more traditional.
Red red red
I chanced upon this shop located in the Ang Mo Kio heartlands. The shop decor is extremely red and therefore eyecatching. You wouldn’t miss it.
I was helping out with a friend’s wedding so I thought this shop would be suitable for her. Indeed, the shop is a one stop solution for all your traditional Chinese wedding needs. I was under the impression that such goods would be tacky but I was proven wrong when I browsed through the items they displayed. Having been to other similar wedding retail stores similar to this, I thought I had seen it all. However, the items they have on sale there are not dated at all. They had goods such as bedsheets, red lamps, slippers and even wedding favours. I even saw a bedsheet from the notable Hong Kong lifestyle concept store, Goods of Desire.
The staff were pretty helpful when I asked them questions about what to buy. For different dialect groups, there are different arrangements for the wedding dowry/items needed. Hence, the shop provides different packages for each dialect group starting from $198, if I’m not wrong. They have a card where they list all the items within the package, for easy reference. For those, like me, who have no clue at all about traditional Chinese wedding customs, this would be a good place to check out.
However, the store in Ang Mo Kio is quite small so it can seem very overwhelming, since the whole store is full of (red) wedding goods.
