A Japanese stationary and gifts store.
A Japanese stationary and gifts store.
NBC is definitely one of my all-time favourite stationery shops! Ironically, I love it not for its stationery, but for the cute and quirky items that they have in stores that are perfect as gifts for others or even yourself!
Recently, they have begun selling a series of metal tins with funny captions on them, and when you find one that describes yourself perfectly, you just cannot resist but buy it.
Also, their cute and cuddly soft toys are not to be missed out on! Expect tiny keychain-type beanies to huge huggable ones in the shape of the most adorable animals on earth!
If you love buying pretty stationery to motivate you for the new school year, this store might be your new favourite haunt.
I’m the type of person who needs pretty pens and notebooks to inspire me to do my work, and I usually get my fix from NBC Stationery and Gifts. They carry stationery that’s unique but reasonably priced, and comparable to what you can find at Paper Market. Notebooks from stores like Typo and Popular are very common and pretty much everyone has them, so this store is a refreshing change.
Apart from notebooks, NBC Stationery and gifts also carries fancy Disney and Sanrio themed stationery from Japan, which is pricey, but makes a good gift. They also bring in cute soft toys and other awesome novelty items, so even if you’re not planning to buy anything, this store is worth a visit to kill time.
I've been to their counters at Takashimaya, and I was delighted to find Maruman paper. To fountain pen enthusiasts, Maruman does not feather or showthrough or bleedthrough, and is smooth. They were available in looseleaf and pads if I remember correctly. Other than that, they stock all the normal stationery like popular rollerballs, although I did find the Hi-Tec C 0.25mm in many colors.
I've heard that they sell J. Herbin ink as well, which is a plus. However, the prices are a little on the steep side. This is to be expected I guess, as shipping isn't worth it, especially with such low demand.
NBC has a number of really interesting items, such as an elephant shaped iphone holder to a few Studio Ghibli toys such as Jiji the cat from Kiki's Delivery Service or Totoro. There are also beautifully designed iphone cases which are hard to find elsewhere, and they stock some lovely Japanese post-it pads and letter sets. Prices are also rather reasonable, around $4 and above.
However, the staff are not extremely familiar with their products, and are unable to answer queries about different types of pens sold. Also, products stocked are not as much as those at The Stationery Superstore at Funan. I recommend heading down to Funan instead, where you can find a wider variety of Japan products at reasonable/same prices, and where the staff are also knowledgeable about their products stocked!
I don't visit NBC Stationery very often, but when I do, I always find myself wandering around the store for a pretty long time, as the store simply retails so much gorgeous and unique stationery that it gets hard to extricate myself from them.
NBC Stationery is a pretty feminine stationery store. Most of their items are cutesy in design, or have a touch of feminine to them. Personally, I adore the ribbons at NBC, as the ribbon designs that they bring in are very unique, and seem very dainty.
There are also several cute notebooks in a wide array of designs at NBC, so it draws in a crowd of all ages, as kids can even find some cutesy notebooks to fascinate them, while there are classy, feminine choices for the slight older females.
Their items can be a little expensive as compared to other stationery stores like Popular or Evergreen. A small roll of ribbon can cost the same price as a thick roll of ribbon at Popular, and even more, if you pick the wider ones. The soft toys were also ridiculously overpriced, and the quality of the toys seemed a little dubious as there were a few that were shedding fake fur all over the shelves.
Although not the most wallet-friendly stationery shop on the block, NBC is still definitely worth the look, because it'll be tough to find similar items of such uniqueness elsewhere in Singapore!
I find that it's a condensed version of TImes bookshop without the membership. They sell a wide variety of writing instruments, and some of them are pretty hard to get from a local bookstore. I usually head there to get refills for my fountain pen, and I'm glad that they brought in the refills even though they don't seem to be selling the pen anymore.
I really like heading over there, just to take a look at all of their stationeries. Really pretty, and some quite exclusive to their store. They also sell small cutesy gift items that seems to be quite for younger girls. The size of their stores are neither too big nor too small. Good enough to see everything in range.
I see this more like a gift store, when I want to get some goodlooking stationeries for a friend, or myself - since the packaging of their items are really pretty as well. Will definitely recommend it to a friend!
NBC sells a wide range of cute stationery and fancy gifts that will appeal more to girls, such as feathered pens, classy notebooks, cute stickers, funny cards, stuffed bears, clocks and many more. The store is huge, and attracts customers like me with its tasteful layout and interior design, which puts one in the perfect mood for gift-shopping.
I was especially attracted to the novelty items. For example, I saw a makeup pouch with the words "Real life photoshop for my face" wittily printed on it, and bought it immediately as a birthday gift intended to tease my friend for her excessive makeup collection. So people in search of a gift for a loved one, why not head to NBC to choose a gift that will not only delight the other party, but bring laughter as well?
Though the items there are a tad expensive, I think it is still value-for-money as the goods there cannot be found anywhere else in Singapore.
It is a different feel from Popular or Prologue because NBC sells not only the usual stationery but also interesting gift items and gift boxes. Its array of 2013 diaries also interest me a lot because you simply cannot find them in Popular bookstores. I bought a pretty pink 2013 diary at only $6. How affordable and unique these diaries at NBC can be.
Besides normal diaries, NBC sells hello kitty diaries and other cartoon characters diaries but at a higher price. Gift ideas like pretty magnets and tin boxes can be found too! Cartoon character pens can be found here too! It is a perfect place to get a christmas/ birthday gift that is practical!
