Go when you are the only one around

I think Lady M cakes are overpriced, and it is just not worth the queue during peak hours. However, if you have a craving for good cake in the late afternoons and need a quiet and classy place to chill, Lady M is your girl.

You can probably get better cakes elsewhere, but the ambience and decor at the Orchard Central outlet is classy, with lots of natural light. Also my friends and I could get pretty rowdy at the cafe without getting death stares thanks to the high ceiling absorbing the noise.

Green Tea Crepe Cakes

This place is famous for their crepe cakes and I really love the green tea crepe cakes here. I frequent the outlet at Marina Square and usually there's a queue that will take about 15-20 minutes of your time but I will say it's worth the time and effort. Decor of the place is minimalistic and bright as it is primarily white based. No clutter, no pretentious decor and fanciful food names. They sell cakes, simple as that. And we come for the cakes! Service is always good and waiters are polite and efficient.

If you're a matcha lover, I highly recommend the green tea mille crepe. It's not overpoweringly sweet and has a slight bitter edge to it. The crepe cake is soft and is a real treat. It does not get "gelat" too as I feel that it has a nice balance of cream to crepe ratio. Another cake I will recommend would be the strawberry mille feuille and the cheesecake. I've never had a cheesecake like Lady M's. I like the cinammon base of the cheesecake. Cakes that you can skip are the chocolatey ones, they are just average to me and nothing really special!.Save your calories for the food worthy of them :)

Crepe Cakes!

Lady M would certainly be the first café that come to mind when you think of crepe cakes.

I have never bought their cakes before but I have tasted quite a few flavors as my friends are fans of them.

Initially, the hype definitely intrigued me and I was so excited when my friends bought me their green tea and lemon flavored ones. The first few bites were oh-so-heart-warming but after a while it got a little too sweet for me. Maybe they should cut down on the cream? That being said, I do think that they deserve all the attention!

I was there the second time when my friends bought the cake and the queue was mad. We waited like more than 15 mins for a take-away and the queue for the café was way too long.

Nevertheless, I would still purchase their crepe cakes in future, hoping to try more of their flavors and give my friends back a treat!

The Cake-Lover's New Haunt

Lady M is a gem that's hidden in a corner of the new wing of Marina Square, just next to St. Marc's. You just might miss it if you're not careful enough to make an extra turn from the cluster of restaurants and cafes in the new wing. I was impressed by the sheet-white interior of the cafe, which was not bland or bare, but as elegant as the cakes served there.

The vanilla crepe was simple but heavenly. The cold, luscious vanilla cream was spread rather evenly throughout, and went well with the paper-thin crepes. There was enough cream in between the layers so that every bite was moist, and had a good balance of crepe and cream. Just as I was ready to declare it the best crepe ever, I learnt that there was also a matcha-flavoured crepe. So, being the fan of matcha that I am, I promptly ordered a slice of that. And indeed, the matcha crepe was way better. I was glad that the matcha-infused cream was sufficiently robust to my liking, which cut the sweetness and richness of the cream. It was an excellent combination of the sweetness of the cream, and the floral notes and tannic bitterness of matcha. Like many other cafes and patisseries, Lady M also serves chocolate and red velvet cakes. They were reasonably good, but I would not recommend them over the cafe's signature crepes.

At about 8.50 a slice, Lady M can be considered somewhat pricey, but I'd say it's worth the occasional indulgence. After all, not many places serve crepes that are even half as good as what I had.

Perfect for High Tea

Lady M Confections is an easy-to-locate cafe, complete with a posh contemporary interior and beautifully set tables, making it perfect for a catch up session with my friends over high tea. At first glance, we thought the cakes are sold out, which gave us a mini heart-attack. When we walked closer, we realised that the cakes are merely displayed on a lower counter, hidden from plain sight. Phew.

The vanilla mille crepe cake is to die for, with each bite melting in my mouth. Sinfully sweet, vanilla-infused cream sandwiched between thin layers of crepe, what more could I ask for? It is so much better than regular cake, I think I might never go back to normal sponge cake ever again. We also had the matcha mousse cake, a less sweet option and a must-have for matcha addicts like yours truly, as well as the strawberry shortcake with its fresh strawberries. Bonus points for aesthetic appeal as the cakes looked very pretty on their white porcelain plates.T'was truly a great afternoon for my tummy and Instagram.

The only disappointing thing was the service, as one of the staff members seemed a little snobby and displeased with having to tend to our queries. It was the only black mark to my otherwise enjoyable experience.

Among The Best Cakes In Singapore

The hottest new dessert place of September / October 2013 in Singapore is famed New York cake boutique, Lady M Confections. Well known for their delicate yet decadent cakes and pastries handmade daily using only the freshest high quality ingredients, Lady M Confections has been drawing long queues. You know Lady M Confections is good when you see people from all walks of life just waiting to get it, from yuppies to suits, kids to the elderly.

Ambience at Lady M Confections revolves around an open concept area that is non-descript in shades of white and grey. Furniture is little more than functional pieces, able to be moved around to suit the crowds, and the only decor to speak of is the elaborate Lady M Confections signage, and a fake plastic plant that adorns each table. But the open counter where their famous cakes and pastries are displayed is attractive in itself.

The bustling but rather plain interior here is nearly always full, expect to queue for at least 10 - 20 minutes.

Service at Lady M Confections is pretty good. While staff are relatively young, they move fast, and are somewhat observant. You'll have to actually wave to attract their attentions sometimes during peak periods (which is nearly all the time), but they're polite, and knowledgable about the menu. Takeaways are quite easy and convenient as well, though there isn't a separate queue or counter for takeaway, which I found odd, as it may get messy if many people place takeaway orders.

Food at Lady M Confections is all about desserts, namely their cakes. Expect generous sized slices of cakes / confections, with sweet, decadent, full-bodied taste and flavour, and reasonable prices comparable to most other mid-range cafes. The menu in Lady M Confections for Singapore is limited as compared to their headquarters in New York, United States Of America, having at least 1/3 less variety. Still, what is available here is extremely good, and repeat visits to try the various items on the menu at Lady M Confections is recommended. Or you could just order takeaway. A slice costs about SGD $9, while a whole 6-inch cake (6 slices) costs about SGD $42.

My only unhappiness / complaint with Lady M Confections, is when they're trying to produce their cakes to meet peak period demand... The presentation of the cakes wind up looking extremely sloppy and unprofessional. Hopefully, this would improve with practice. Fortunately, the cakes still retain excellent taste despite looking 'rushed'.

The signature Vanilla Mille Crepes features 20 paper thin handmade crepes, layered with light, airy, almost ethereal pastry cream, and a caramalised golden coat. Extremely delicate and decadent, the Vanilla Mille Crepes simply melt away in your mouth, with a subtle, non-overpowering sweet note at the end. If you only eat 1 thing here, go for the Vanilla Mille Crepes!

The Gateau Nuage means 'Cloud Cake', and is an apt description for this airy whipped cheesecake on a cinnamon infused, crumbly graham cracker crust. Topped with a thin layer of sweet cream, the Gateau Nuage is silky, smooth, and light... Perfect as a cheesecake!

The Strawberry Shortcake features a vanilla infused sponge cake, made using a fine flour imported from Japan, and studded with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The resulting Strawberry Shortcake is light, with bursts of sweet flavour from the strawberries, and is easily one of the best versions of Strawberry Shortcake I've had in Singapore. The cream is slightly thick on the end though.

Considered to be the second most popular item, the Banana Mille Feuille has a flaky golden puff pastry, which encloses layers of vanilla infused sponge cake, cream whipped with triple sec alcohol, and studded with slices of ripe bananas. The outer crust of the Banana Mille Feuille shatters as you cut into it, and tastes light, full-bodied and flavourful, thanks to the combination of vanilla and banana.

The Camomile Tea, just like their other drinks, are simply an accompaniment to their stars (cakes). Rather standard offerings, with good flavour, but not an attraction in themselves.
