I used to think that Dr Martens shoes were so difficult to pull off and heavy until a got a pair myself. Not only are the soles comfortable and cushiony, the feeling of wearing boots are no different from a pair of high cut sneakers. The only upside of this? I look way more trendy than if I had chosen to wear a pair of high cut sneakers.
The fact that Dr Martens were originally army boots that were fashioned into a trend made it difficult for me to accept them at first. My impression was marred by the fact that boots were only used for hiking in the woods or washing cars, and they seemed a little bit too rugged to match different styles of clothing. As the trend caught on however, Dr Martens expanded their range and started coming up with more stylish designs that appealed to the female audience. Unfortunately, I had unknowingly fallen in love with the black classic pair that was evergreen. Not only does black match almost every outfit, the look and the feel of it is gorgeous.
Now I want another pair.
Designed to Perfection
I honestly never knew that Dr Martens is a footwear brand which offers shoes other than the safety industrial work boots I received as part of the uniform I needed when working in an environmental science laboratory last year. I still have them boots in my shoe cabinet.
I wore them 5 times a week and for 12 hours on those days, and I must say, there are comfortable as hell! The insoles are soft and structured for every day use in activities that require prolonged standing. It has such a support that I rarely feel the ache growing on my lower back. It also has non-slip soles which helped me whenever I'm in the wet lab. It is overall an amazing footwear, designed to perfection.
Durable and long lasting, I am now eyeing my next purchase of Dr Martens' 1461 womens shoes!
I still remember my maiden Dr Martens experience as a huge rush and clamour to get to the outlet at Wheelock Place to get that particular size of that particular boot. I tried on and found it to be a good and comfortable fit, bought it and never looked back. Dr Martens, although it may be a bit expensive, is definitely a great walking shoe that literally makes you feel as though you are bouncing on air with their trademark "Bouncing Soles". It takes some time to get used to walking with boots, but I think it's definitely worth it.
I like that Dr Martens can complement different outfits, whether you are wearing jeans or skirts or shorts, it can still go well with a pair of Dr Martens. It adds a rugged touch to your outfit and yet still manages to look classy. Dr Martens has different outlets in Singapore, but I recommend the ones at Wheelock Place and Orchard Central. The outlet at Wheelock Place may be daunting to walk into, because the sales staff there are quite punk-ish in nature, but they offered me great service and were ever-willing to answer any questions I had. The outlet at Orchard Central is quieter and more out of the way, so you should head there if you like a shoe shopping experience to be quiet and undisturbed.
Do not be fooled by the idea that Dr Martens only has those few models that you see so commonly around Singapore. Visit one of their shops and you'll find that they actually have quite a few different models, some of which are extremely eccentric and unique. I love my Dr Martens, thumbs up!
Dr Martens are THE go-to brand for those looking for a solid, fashionable pair of shoes that can last forever. The shoes come in a wide variety of designs and are sure to make a fashion statement whether tomorrow, or five years down the road! In fact, a particular line of Dr Martens comes with a lifetime warranty.
Furthermore, the designs of the shoes from this brand are such that they can match almost any outfit or styles, from grungy tomboy to cute and girly.
Apart from looking amazing and being amongst the most durable shoes available on the market, Dr Martens are also incredibly comfortable. The soles are very well-cushioned, I can walk in them for hours on end without blisters or discomfort.
The service provided at the store is also excellent. When I visited, my size was out of stock. The staff was very apologetic and immediately offered to reserve a pair for me from the incoming shipment, which I was thankful for.
Not the same any more
My first pair of Doc Marts was bought in 1991. that same pair of shoes is still around. My friend bought his a year ago and this year his soles are coming apart.
The difference? Mine was made in England, his wasn't. It was Vietnam if I am not wrong.
Point is, the fact that mine lasted 22 years is a testament to the quality of the English construction. And the fact that I paid $140 for a pair of English made shoes and my friend the same price for a Vietnamese made pair that barely lasted a year is a travesty. Which led me to think just how much profit is the company making?
Something hot during my university school days
I remembered in my university days, there were two groups of students, those that wore proper shoes and those that wore sandals. I belonged to the sandal group because I stayed in hall and it was so much more convenient to wear a pair of sandals.
I noticed that quite a big percentage of the group wearing shoes was wearing Dr Marten shoes. In my second year, I decided to change my image and started to wear proper shoes and the brand I looked at was Dr Marten. Buying a pair of Dr Marten nearly wiped out all my savings but it was worth it because the shoes lasted many years. I was not someone that followed the trend so when the trend to wear Dr Marten died off, I was still wearing mine.
Dr Marten's chunky footwear certainly succeeded in luring my attention! The wide array of designs to choose from and the iconic thread weaved around it's circumference are certainly a delicious combination that my feet yearned for. I recalled wondering why my school seemed to be raining Dr Martens daily. Now I know.
The padding was fantabulous. It felt like my feet were being placed on a custom-made sofa! There were no blisters whenever I strut around using it. Some paddings are too thick, my shoe felt like it contained stagnant pools of sweat though. The footwear was so solid, it seemed I could reach Mount Everest summit without even the aid of a stick. The frictional grip my Dr Marten's own will put bus tyres to shame. Unfortunately, it is too frictional. I tend to trip over nothing whenever I'm clad in these Dr Martens.
Oh apart from those marvellous matte or glossy designs that caused many to reel in envy, Dr Marten's are rather heavy. Rather is an understatement. They are VERY heavy. I don't mind the weight though. It indirectly aids my calves to get toner.
I brought my first Doc Martens boots about two years ago, and up till today, with a bit of polishing, it still looks good. I've gone to the outlet at [email protected] a few more times since.
The service was better than expected, really. Most times, my queries were answered with a friendly smile and the staff seems as if they genuinely want to help. There was only one or two isolated instances when the staff in charge was unfriendly and cold.
I still feel the boots/shoes/products are overpriced.. considering the fact that most (if not all) are made in China.. but nevertheless, I'll probably buy my second pair of Doc Martens soon!
these boots were made for walking
About five years back, I'd never even heard of Dr Martens. I just saw these boots on display one day while I was out with my parents and thought they were cool, so they bought me a pair.
As we left, I casually glanced at the receipt and completely freaked out. I remember the exact price, $169, even now!
Still, my Doc Marts have served me well over the years, which I suppose warrants their price. Maybe. They (kinda) make me taller at concerts and they're good for other countries in the winter, Sg when it's raining or just for when I feel like it.
They're beginning to crack and peel in places now, especially where they crease when I bend down, squat, sit, basically anything other than stand, but I still love them.
Plus, I really don't want to have to buy another pair...
Before you do, make sure you're definitely not going to regret it. And make sure you use them a lot so they're worth the money!
sturdy fashion statement
Dr Martens has been known to many teens as being the trendy boots, the one pair of shoes you'll need to add a fashion touch to your overall dressing. Priced exorbitantly high, many save up just to own a pair and treat it like their precious. However, uncommon to many, Dr Martens is less fragile than you think it is.
When I was travelling to a winter country I was searching high and low for a pair of sturdy boots that'll pull me through the winter storm and to my surprise, Dr Martens was a plausible option. Not only is it good in snow, it stays strong in mud and dirt. So good news guys, go ahead and plunge your feet into a muddy field, your Martens are made to withstand it!
