Saigon reports its first COVID-19 death from a food cluster
On 21st May 2021, Ho Chi Minh City announced a COVID-19 cluster in a food lane in District 3.
The source of infection originated from O Thanh Restaurant, whose owner and family members were all infected. After initial detection, the family’s direct contacts were taken to dedicated COVID-19 facilities.
Despite timely treatment, the 37-year-old daughter of the family, known as case 5463, passed away this morning. We summarize the story below.
The patient had underlying health problems

According to Dan Tri, the lady had underlying health problems such as kidney failure, heart failure, and high blood pressure.Â
After testing positive for the virus, her health worsened rapidly and she underwent septic shock. Â
On the morning of 2nd June 2021, she passed away in the Ho Chi Minh Hospital For Tropical Diseases, officials confirmed.

This is the first recorded death in Ho Chi Minh City since the 4th wave of the COVID-19 pandemic struck in late April.
Vietnam reports 50 new COVID-19 cases on 2nd June

This morning, Vietnam reported over 50 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total tally since the beginning of the pandemic to 7,675.
Amongst the new cases today, Bac Giang accounted for 48 domestic infections, while Saigon recorded 23 locally transmitted cases. Medical workers are examining patients’ travel records to trace the sources of infection, Dan Tri reports.Â
As of 2nd June 2021, Vietnam has had over 4,600 COVID-19 patients who are undergoing treatment and a total of 49 deaths.
Saigon reports 1st COVID-19 death from food cluster
After the emergence of several COVID-19 clusters in May, Saigon has seen a daily spike in the number of domestic infections. The city’s 1st COVID-19 death of the latest outbreak serves as a stern reminder of the danger of this pandemic.
To stay safe from COVID-19, try to stay indoors when possible, mask up when you’re out, and observe social distancing.
