9 Places To Buy Labubu In Singapore Without Spending Hundreds Of Dollars At Claw Machines

Places to get Labubu in Singapore

If you’ve seen someone walking with a furry-looking creature hanging on their bag, chances are it was the highly sought-after Labubu. While there are a few commonly-known places to buy Pop Mart figurines, the stock for Labubu is mostly sold out on our tiny island.

In fact, we’ve noticed long queues at claw machines recently with people hoping to get their hands on a Labubu but walking away empty-handed after spending a hefty sum. Hence, we’ve compiled a list of places to get Labubu in Singapore as an alternative.

Disclaimer: We advise that you do your own checks for authenticity on platforms like Shopee, Lazada and Carousell, as we are not in direct partnerships with any of the suppliers mentioned.

What is Labubu?

For the uninitiated, Labubu is a fictional character created by Hong Kong-based illustrator, Kasing Lung, in a series of short stories called The Monsters. The stories found in the picture books were inspired by Nordic folktales, with other characters such as elves and fairies.

Kasing Lung signed a contract with Pop Mart in 2019, where merchandise like plush toys, blind box figurines, and bags was created based on his characters. The most popular ones today would be the plush toys from The Monsters Fall In Wild Series, The Monsters Tasty Macarons Series, and The Monsters Have A Seat Series.

These plush toys can be accessorised with different clothes, and they are now often used as a keychain for outfits and bags.

Why is Labubu so popular in Singapore?

What contributed to Labubu skyrocketing in popularity, you ask? This is largely attributed to Blackpink’s Lisa posting an Instagram story in April 2024, where she was seen carrying a Labubu plushie and bag keychain.

Labubu also made its appearance at Milan Fashion Week, being part of a collaboration between Pop Mart and Pronounce, a Chinese designer brand. The collection featured garments with Labubu-themed prints and is currently sold out.

This chain of events led to a global internet craze over the Pop Mart character, where the series is now sold out at most Pop Mart outlets. There are 2 types of people chasing this plush pendant currently: those looking to resell it at much higher prices, and those who simply enjoy dressing up their Labubu like a Barbie doll, with several choices of clothing and even braces as an option.

How to check if a Labubu is authentic

If you’re thinking of getting a Labubu for yourself, it’s best you know how to tell if it’s real or fake. The first thing you should check is the Labubu’s face colour, as an authentic one will often have lighter tones with a beige-coloured blush. Real Labubus only have 9 teeth in total, and their left foot will spot a Pop Mart logo. Their tags will also indicate the series it’s a part of, so don’t forget to check that too.

For those who plan to buy blind boxes, the back of every box will have a QR code and a 4-digit number. Upon scanning the QR code, you will be redirected to an authentication site where you have to key in the number. If the website gives you the green light, it’s the real deal.

Another way to check for authenticity is to read reviews from people who had bought the product online. Keywords to look out for would be quality and if the Labubu bought had signs of being a fake.
