UNIQLO Has A Monchhichi Collab, With Customisable T-Shirts & Tote Bags To Go Bananas For

UNIQLO x Monchhichi collab

When it comes to collaborations, UNIQLO has them down to a tee. From linking up with pop culture icons such as POP MART and Tamagotchi to working with local mainstays like Ya Kun Kaya Toast, the Japanese clothing retailer has made repping our favourite brands oh so stylish.

Recently, they’ve joined hands with another line of monkey-inspired toys that you might have chanced upon dangling on the bags of trend-chasing folks on the MRT. That’s right, you can now snag Monchhichi x UNIQLO merch right here in Singapore; here’s all you need to know about emblazoning the adorable baby primate on your next UNIQLO purchase.

What is Moncchichi?

In case you’re not in the know, Monchhichi is a line of stuffed monkey toys from Japan, first released all the way back in 1974. However, they’ve made a resurgence as of late, perhaps as a result of the collective hype surrounding endearing, ugly-cute collectibles; we’ve got Labubus to thank for that.

As such, Monchhichi dolls have found their way into the most fervent of ling ling long long collectors in Singapore, with designs dressing the baby-faced monkeys in all sorts of pint-sized outfits which often sport their iconic bibs. Fun fact, the brand’s name is derived from the sound that a child’s pacifier would make.

However, it’s pretty hard to come across stores on the Little Red Dot that stock official Monchhichi merch. Most of the dolls that you see dangling about on commuters’ everyday carry are bought directly from Japan, which is why being able to shop for anything Monchhichi-related in Singapore is huge news for fans islandwide.

What to expect from the UNIQLO x Monchhichi collab?

Unfortunately, the UNIQLO x Monchhichi collaboration won’t be stocking dolls this time around, but we’ve got the next best thing: customisable T-shirts and tote bags. To get started, swing by either their VivoCity, Jewel Changi Airport, or Orchard Central Global Flagship outlet as only those stores offer UNIQLO’s UTme! T-shirt customisation services.

Prices for an adult short-sleeve T-shirt start from $29.90, but if you’re on the petite side, you just might be able to slip into a kids’ tee for $19.90. Meanwhile, you can get a blank off-white tote bag for $39.90. Once you’ve chosen your size, you can head right to the stores’ UTme! booth to begin giving your pieces a personalised touch.

There are more than 30 print designs to splash all over your tees and tote bags to proclaim your love for Monchhichi, including portraits of the dolls posed in dainty sets and the brand’s name written in Japanese characters. The whole process is pretty swift too; it should take just 10 minutes to get your merch printed and heat-pressed.
