While most Singaporeans like our BTOs big, the rest of the world has been riding a “tiny home living” trend. Sounds familiar? Chances are, you’ve scrolled past videos titled “Smallest Loft In New York” or “Living In A Tiny Home On Wheels” on YouTube. The trend is finally arriving in Singapore with Tiny Away Escape@Lazarus Island.
A concept hotel of sorts, this project by Sentosa Development Corporation and local company Big Tiny features rooms as small as 150sqft, which is less than half the size of a 2-room HDB. Insanely miniature or irresistibly intriguing, you can find out for yourself when they launch on 5th May 2023.
P.S. They’re also having an early bird promo, more details below.

In a city where land is scarce, it’s no surprise that going big is the dream. Tiny homes, on the contrary, proffer the concept that you don’t really need a lot of space to live happily. Tiny Away Escape@Lazarus Island features 5 units spanning between 150-175sqft in size, with everything you need for a cosy island getaway.
Every room here sports a unique theme, from colonial to industrial.

Within each unit, you’ll be able to find a living space, bed, and even a kitchenette. Expect great views too, since the walls are fitted with large one-way mirrors that stretch from floor to ceiling.
Remember SG Hotel on Wheels or The Container Hub at Haw Par Villa? This rocks a similar concept, except you’d be a jetty ride away from the rest of civilisation.

Adventure junkies will be glad to hear that they can get a taste of living off-grid here. The cabins are built to run sustainably, with solar energy being the main source of power. Instead of going down the chute, food waste will also be recycled in a “high-tech” system.

Plus, the body wash and shampoo provided will be biodegradable, and the sustainably-sourced building materials will also be repurposed for use in future tiny houses.
Currently, things may sound a little more “camping” than “Bali-like getaway”. That may not be the case come June 2023, with the addition of a convenience store and overnight glamping experiences. Non-motorised water sports will also be thrown into the mix.

Amenities that are already available on the island include an air-conditioned multi-purpose space by the sea called the Glasshouse, as well as a bike rental kiosk on St. John’s Island.
Nature tells us that the early bird catches the worm and that rings true here. Register your interest on the Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus website and make your bookings before the end of May 2023 to snag yourself a discount of up to 29% off. This is valid for stays all the way till 30th June 2025.
Early bird prices:
Sun-Thu: $199/night (U.P. $280)
Fri-Sat: $249/night (U.P.$320)
While it’s certainly not for everyone, minimalists and beach lovers will probably agree that this new concept on Lazarus Island sounds pretty exciting. If you’re looking for something a little more rugged for a weekend getaway, keep your eyes peeled for the opening of Tiny Away Escape@Lazarus Island in May this year.
