We Stayed In A Newly Revamped Hotel Room At The St. Regis Singapore To See If It’s Worth The Splurge

The St. Regis Singapore review

When it comes to atas hotels in Singapore, The St. Regis Singapore is a 5-star hotel that’s long been the poster child for luxury stays. And almost 2 decades since its official opening in 2008, it’s finally getting a well-deserved glow-up – with a multi-phase revamp currently underway.

We checked into one of the newly refurbished rooms to see what had changed, and took the chance to experience the facilities and service that come with a stay here. So, is it worth the splurge? Here’s our review of The St. Regis Singapore hotel.

Where is The St. Regis Singapore located?

You’ll find the St. Regis Singapore located along Tanglin Road – it’s just a 4-minute drive to Singapore Botanic Gardens, and an 11-minute walk to ION Orchard.

The hotel is close enough to the Orchard buzz for all your dining, shopping, and entertainment needs, but far enough to enjoy a bit of calm after a day of exploring.

Pro tip: don’t confuse it with St. Regis Residences next door – both buildings look nearly identical. To make sure you’re at the right spot, keep an eye out for the sculpture of a Buddha riding a dragon at the hotel entrance.

What’s The St. Regis Singapore known for & what’s new?

The hotel is best known for its 24-hour butler service, curated art collection that almost makes it feel like a museum, and a range of dining options from afternoon high tea to a fine-dining Cantonese restaurant that’s gained quite a reputation.

It’s also worth mentioning that every room in the hotel comes with a bathtub for you to soak the day’s aches away.

Now for the new stuff: alongside the revamped rooms, guests can also check out refreshed spaces like The Tea Room and the newly renovated John Jacob Ballroom, all part of the hotel’s ongoing facelift.

What’s included in The St. Regis Singapore stay?

Hotel rooms that pay homage to the Singapore Botanic Gardens

We stayed in the 1 King Bed Penthouse Room on the 20th floor – the highest level of the hotel. Prices for this room start from $612/night* on weekdays, with breakfast included for 2 adults and kids under 12. Just note that rates can vary depending on demand and your selected dates.

*Price is accurate at the time of writing.

The St. Regis Singapore hotel lobby.

We checked in at 3pm and saw bellboys wheeling luggage through the grand lobby, but since we were travelling light, the front desk staff swiftly handed us our key cards and directed us to the lifts. Access to the hotel rooms on Levels 3 to 20 is only possible by scanning your room card – an extra layer of security we appreciated.

The moment we stepped into the room, soft music was already playing on the TV. But what really caught our eye were the refreshed interiors. The carpeted flooring has been swapped out for wood flooring in a herringbone pattern, giving the room warm, homely vibes.

We’ve been told that the new interiors are inspired by the nearby Singapore Botanic Gardens – spot botanical details like the blue floral carpet beneath the bed, and a feature wall with delicate floral motifs. The once-red-and-gold curtains have also been replaced with muted tones that feel a little more modern, and a little less old-world royal.

You won’t be pulling any curtains here – instead, the room comes with day and night blinds that open and close automatically at the touch of a button.

As for the view, it wasn’t much to shout about as it was mostly blocked by neighbouring buildings and condos. But if waking up to lush greenery is more your thing, you can always opt for a room with a botanical view instead.

To welcome us, the hotel left a plate of fresh fruits and macarons stamped with the St. Regis logo – a small but luxe gesture that made us feel pampered from the get-go.

We were also able to cast music from Spotify and stream Netflix shows by connecting our phone to the TV via Wi-Fi.

While the room has gotten a glow-up, those who love the old-school charm of The St. Regis Singapore will be glad to know that the bathroom still retains its regal aesthetic. We really liked the double sinks so we didn’t have to fight each other for space, the separate shower and toilet area, and the massive bathtub in the centre.

We didn’t pack any toiletries other than skincare and makeup – thankfully, the bathroom came stocked with goodies from REN Clean Skincare and SACHAJUAN. Bath salts were provided too, so a relaxing soak was defo on the cards.

On the eco front, the hotel has introduced sustainability features like motion-activated LED lights and a built-in water dispenser. Having potable water on tap was a huge plus, especially since it meant fewer calls to the concierge for bottled water refills. Heads up: only hot and room-temperature water is available.

The minibar was well-stocked with snacks, soft drinks, and alcohol, though we were a little bummed that these weren’t complimentary. For a hotel of this calibre, we lowkey expected at least the snacks or sodas to be free.

Other thoughtful features include mirrors at the entryway for those essential OOTD checks. And while it might seem minor, we were relieved that there weren’t any mirrors facing the bed, ‘cause we’re pantang, IYKYK.

Our butler even gave us a call to remind us about our scheduled art tour. The St. Regis Singapore prides itself on its butler service, which includes everything from unpacking and packing your luggage to arranging a morning wake-up call, serving welcome beverages, and pressing garments. While we didn’t make many requests during our short stay, it still felt nice knowing the service was just a call away.

Buffet breakfast with a wide variety of cuisines to choose from

No staycay is complete without a proper breakfast spread, and The St. Regis Singapore delivers on that front with its daily breakfast buffet at The Astor Grill, served from 6.30am to 10.30am. The restaurant recently reopened on 27th June 2025. If you’ve booked the package that comes with breakfast, you’re in for a treat.

Pro tip: The best time to head down is between 6.30am and 8am – that’s when it’s nice and quiet, and you’ll have the buffet area pretty much to yourself. You’ll be able to do a full survey of the spread and pick your favourites without the pressure.

Once seated, we were handed a menu of made-to-order breakfast dishes, which was a lovely surprise. This included eggs done in different ways, French toast, hot oatmeal, and even vegan-friendly picks.

We went for the Epicurean Omelette, which came with tiger prawns, lobster bisque sauce, avruga pearls (a caviar substitute), and a sprinkle of chives. We also added on a side of avocado toast. Both were delish, and honestly, worth saving some stomach space for.

But St. Regis Singapore’s buffet spread was where things got exciting. There was a noodle station where we could DIY our bowl with our choice of ingredients, a selection of cold cuts and cheese, and a lineup of pastries, including croissants and muffins. Not to mention the pancake and waffle station that was calling out to our inner child.

Other highlights included a salad bar, cereal station, and a fruit juice corner where we could customise our freshly squeezed options.

We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast, and if you ask us, we wouldn’t mind setting our alarms for this, even on a staycay.

Over 70 artworks by local & international artists

The St. Regis Singapore is also home to a curated art collection featuring over 70 pieces by both local and international artists. You’ll spot them everywhere, from the lobby to the hallways, and even right outside the hotel.

Pro tip: let the front desk know if you’d like to join the complimentary butler-led art tour when you check in. It’s an experience that’ll make your stay feel extra special and artsy.

We met our butler in the lobby, who brought us straight to the entrance, where several sculptures are on display. TBH, we had walked right past them earlier without giving them much thought, but the tour gave us a reason to appreciate the details.

One standout artwork you can’t miss is the Reclining Woman sculpture by Fernando Botero, perched right outside the hotel. Our butler shared that this piece was commissioned by the hotel to symbolise the sense of relaxation that guests are meant to feel during their stay, just like the lounging lady.

Inside the hotel, you’ll find the walls adorned with a variety of artworks at almost every turn. One of our favourites was the Lotus Pond Series by Chua Ek Kay. Made up of strokes depicting lotus stems, buds, and leaves, the piece is a reminder to slow down – something we all need on a luxe staycay like this.

Don’t forget to look up, literally, during the art tour. Above the spiral staircase leading to the ballroom hangs a crystal chandelier designed to resemble a ship. This detail pays tribute to John Jacob Astor, the founder of The St. Regis New York, who lost his life in the sinking of the Titanic.

Iconic champagne sabrage

Right after the butler-led art tour, we got to witness the iconic champagne sabrage – a signature ritual across St. Regis hotels worldwide, where a bottle of bubbly is dramatically sliced open with a sabre. It’s as extra as it sounds, but we were all for it.

Fun fact: the champagne needs to be properly prepped for the big moment. It’s chilled for 24 hours below 10°C, then flipped upside down about 20 minutes before opening – the colder the bottle, the cleaner the break.

At The St. Regis Singapore, this happens daily at 6.30pm in the lobby, and is a complimentary experience for all hotel guests. Within a couple of minutes, we were sipping on a glass of crisp champagne to toast the evening ahead. It was a memorable detail that shows the hotel’s commitment to keeping its traditions alive.

Facilities like a fully-equipped gym & outdoor pool

If you want to squeeze in a workout even while on holiday, you’ll be glad to know that The St. Regis Singapore has a 24-hour fitness centre that’s fully equipped and free for all hotel guests to use. Equipment includes treadmills, exercise bikes, weight machines, and stair climbers.

There’s also an outdoor pool, open from 7am to 9pm, with complimentary towels and plenty of comfy loungers for guests. We’ll be honest – the pool isn’t particularly wow – there’s no sweeping skyline or garden view to speak of, but it’s still wide enough for proper laps if you’re in the mood for a good swim. Or you could just chill by the water with a book and soak up the vibes.

What else is there to do at The St. Regis Singapore?

Afternoon tea with free-flow scones

You may want to add on certain experiences that’ll make your stay even more luxurious at The St. Regis Singapore, like indulging in a high tea sesh.

The Tea Room is where you’ll get to experience the afternoon tea ritual – a tradition that dates back to the 19th century, first introduced by Mrs. Caroline Astor at The St. Regis New York. Today, it lives on in St. Regis hotels around the world, including right here in Singapore.

We tried the new Summer Garden Afternoon Tea ($65/pax), which kicks off with a glass of Copenhagen Sparkling Tea and our choice of coffee or tea, brewed tableside by a tea sommelier. We got to sniff our way through the tea selection before picking 1 – a new experience that felt both fun and fancy.

There was even a live harpist serenading the room while we munched, which made the whole experience feel like something out of Bridgerton.

As for the food, a standout for us was the Foie Gras Terrine Shortbread with Raspberry Caviar – it was creamy, not overly strong, and balanced. On the sweet side, the Tropical Garden Tartlet stole the show. The mix of tropical fruit compote and vanilla cream on an almond sable was the right mix of tart, smooth, and crunchy.

Alongside the savoury canapés and sweet treats, we were also treated to free-flow scones served with 4 types of jam, plus clotted cream and passionfruit “caviar” – something like popping boba.

Some of the other savouries didn’t quite hit the mark for our taste buds, but if you’re here for the vibes, atmosphere, and novelty of tableside tea and unlimited scones, it’s still worth a visit.

In-house spa at St. Regis Singapore for head-to-toe pampering

Image credit: The St. Regis Singapore

The St. Regis Spa has some pretty solid facilities, like indoor and outdoor jacuzzis, cedarwood Finnish saunas, and eucalyptus steam chambers. These are free for hotel guests to use, but swimsuits are required to enter, and sadly, we didn’t pack any. So we gave this one a pass and settled for enviously peeking through the spa entrance like sad little gremlins.

If you’re feeling bougie, you can also treat yourself to spa treatments like the Aroma Journey massage ($350), Supreme Pedicure with Foot Massage ($185), or the Age Defying Cocoon body treatment ($285).

We didn’t try any of them – not because they didn’t sound amazing, but because our bank accounts politely said, “Maybe next time.”

Dim sum brunch buffet at a fine-dining Cantonese restaurant

Image credit: Yan Ting via Google Maps

Because we stayed at The St. Regis Singapore over the weekend, we were able to try the Dim Sum Brunch (from $168/pax) at Yan Ting, the hotel’s fine-dining Cantonese restaurant. The space has recently been refreshed, and it’s now even more zhng-ed up.

The buffet is only available on weekends and public holidays, and you can order as much as you want, from anything on the menu. Just remember not to over-order – the “don’t waste food” rule still applies, even in bougie surroundings.

Some premium items are limited to 1 serving per person, like the Double-boiled Abalone Consomme, Sea Whelk soup, Deep-fried Lobster with Egg Floss, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings with Caviar, and Mini Egg Tart with Bird’s Nest.

Don’t miss the Crispy Roasted Pork Belly and Pan-fried Scallop with Truffle Sauce.

We’ll be real – the 1-serving dishes weren’t our top picks. Our favourites were the free-flow staples like the Mushroom Dumplings with Truffle, Fried ‘Pik Fong Tong’ Radish Cake served with a glorious bed of fried garlic, and the Steamed Sea Perch Fillet with Fungus and Garlic.

New St. Regis Bar

Image credit: The St. Regis Singapore

And if you needed another reason to revisit The St. Regis Singapore, here’s one for your list: a brand-new St. Regis Bar. We didn’t get to check it out ourselves as it was still under renovation during our stay, but a little birdie tells us it’s officially open.

The star of the space is a birdcage-inspired back bar crafted from aged brass, forming a grid of display boxes that show off a selection of spirits. Seating in the bar is also arranged for comfort and chinwagging

Evenings here get an upgrade with the Time After Time cocktail menu, which blends American drinking trends with local flavours and cultural nods. You’ll find the Merlion Sling ($28), a comforting classic with a local twist, and the Eternal Tropicalia ($28), which packs a strong, lively punch, on the menu.

Is it worth booking a stay at The St. Regis Singapore?

Even the cushions have been thoughtfully chosen to feature botanical motifs.

The St. Regis Singapore certainly lives up to its reputation. Service was top-notch – we were greeted with warm smiles, attentive staff, and little touches that made our stay feel extra special, like the desserts left in our room and butler-led art tour. The breakfast buffet that’s included in the stay had some really solid options too.

As for the other dining add-ons like afternoon tea and the dim sum brunch, there were a few standout dishes that we really enjoyed. But some of the fancier options didn’t quite wow us for the price.

Which brings us to the price tag – this is definitely not your casual weekend staycay. Unless you’re swimming in disposable income, we’d recommend saving this one for a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday treat. That way, you’ll be more likely to appreciate the pampering and luxurious touches without the pressure of justifying every cent.
