When it comes to theme parks in Malaysia, most Singaporeans immediately think of LEGOLAND Malaysia and Genting SkyWorlds. Sunway Lagoon is somewhat of a pioneer, having opened all the way back in 1993. It measures 88 acres which, to put it into perspective, is more than 3.5 times the size of VivoCity – SG’s biggest mall.
You can look forward to over 80 attractions across 7 different parks, all included in a single ticket. Accommodation wise, there are luxury hotels within the complex so you don’t have to fret about transportation to and fro, as well as glamping packages with premium BBQ dinners.
Here’s the full lowdown so you can start planning your trip to Sunway Lagoon, located less than an hour from KL.
The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 23rd August 2024.

The main Amusement Park section is where you’ll find all the classic rides like a Ferris wheel, carousel, and spinning teacups. It’s foolproof fun for all ages, whether you’re accompanying your little one or have a fear of roller coasters. But, those looking for thrills on the Amusement Park’s Pirate’s Revenge ride will have to look elsewhere, as according to Sunway Lagoon’s website, it’s closed till further notice.

There are also carnival games where you can win cute plushies. Games like the ring toss and ball-in-the-bucket are simple enough for kids to partake in, and if you’re here on a couple’s getaway, you stand a good chance of snagging prizes for bae.

The Amusement Park is also home to the iconic Sunway Lagoon Suspension Bridge, one of the most IG-worthy spots in the theme park. It measures 428m long, dangling over the park’s attractions from rides to bodies of water, and is a must-visit to snap some pics and commemorate your trip.
Pack your swimsuit and lotsa sunscreen, ‘cause the Water Park is where you’ll get hours of fun splashing around. The kiddos will have a blast over at Little Zimbabwe, an African-themed water playground for children. There are plenty of different slides and fountains for them to explore as they stay cool in the wading pool.

One of Sunway Lagoon’s highlights is the Vuvuzela Vortex Ride, a gargantuan water slide that’s 11 storeys tall. Besides the staggering height, it’s also the world’s largest vortex ride, meaning it uses centrifugal force to propel you even harder. Imagine the thrill of being flushed down a giant toilet bowl, if you will.
For a slightly different water ride, give the Waterplexx 5D a go. It’s a 5-dimensional ride with moving seats, laser projections, and plenty of wind, mist, fog, and water jet sprays to fully immerse you – and leave you soaking wet.

Those who wanna experience ocean vibes without the fear of lurking jellyfish and stingrays can head to Surf Beach. It’s a huge 13,000sqm surf pool where you can float along and enjoy the man-made waves, or channel your inner Baywatch babe/hunk and take part in the Flowrider surfing simulator. However, do note that Surf Beach is currently closed until further notice.
X Park is where the activities are decidedly more high-adrenaline or physically demanding. From go-karting to archery, you can expect to activate some muscles here, and have your heart rate soar considerably.

Thrillseekers love a good Bungee Jump, and over here you’ll get to catch a bird’s-eye view of the entire Sunway Lagoon complex as you take the leap. For the slightly more faint of heart who still want to catch some air time, there’s a Bungee Trampoline where you’ll get to control how high you wanna bounce.
Live out your Mario Kart fantasies on the Go-Kart course – sans the banana peels and turtle shells. The circuit is designed with sharp turns and continuous twists so you can put your manoeuvring skills to the test.

Chase that heart-dropping thrill some more with G Force X, a slingshot ride which propels you at speeds of up to 120km/h. In between catching your breath and relishing the sheer adrenaline, you’ll also get to enjoy aerial views of the theme park.

If you fancy yourself an excellent marksman, head to the paintball and archery stations. Test your accuracy without fearing that you’ll get caught in the crossfire, as it’s purely target shooting and not a battlefield-type arena.

For a break from the heart-pumping action, you can also partake in some mellow water activities in X Park too. Try your hand at pedal-boating, or give those biceps a good workout by opting to go kayaking instead.

The Lost Lagoon is an official Nickelodeon themed zone that has attractions for both young and old – ‘cause we all know the love for cartoon series like SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles transcends generations.

Save time and hassle by squeezing in a zoo visit on your amusement park outing. Sunway Lagoon has a Wildlife Park within the theme park, and it’s no shabby makeshift mind you.
It houses more than 150 species of animals, and the borderless glass enclosures allow you to get real up close with the wildlife. See white tigers, majestic snakes, exotic birds, and cute critters like hedgehogs and raccoons at breathtaking proximity

Besides just coursing through the enclosures, you can catch free Wildlife Multi-animal shows at the Wildlife Theatre, which take place at 11.20am and 3pm daily. Also, feed critters like tortoises and goats by purchasing Animal Feed Kits (from RM15, ~S$4.47), and interact with animals through zookeeper-guided sessions. Check out the Wild Encounters schedule and plan your trip accordingly.

Every year come October, Sunway Lagoon’s Scream Park holds a Halloween festival à la Halloween Horror Nights. First launched in 2013, it’s called Nights of Fright and the entire Scream Park section gets transformed into a scare zone.
There’ll be themed trails, live performances, and roving scare actors to give you the heebie jeebies. Spot popular characters in horror pop culture like Jigsaw, Annabelle, and Valak from The Conjuring and The Nun. Nights of Frights will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, so expect this year’s edition to be extra spooky.

For those popping by any other time of the year, you can still look forward to Sharknado Alive. This year-round exhibit takes guests on 15-minute BTS tours of the Sharknado film series, a horror-comedy franchise known for being so kitschy, you can’t look away. The studio tour grants exclusive glimpses to the movie set-ups and over-the-top props, including numerous shark statues you can strike poses with.
Diehard fans of the franchise will also be able to pick up assorted merch here, immortalising the films even though it’s been a decade since the original’s release. Who knows, these may become vintage treasures in the future.

Should you plan to stay till the cows come home, you can swing by the new Sunway Lagoon Night Park. It’s a cowboy-themed area which only opens its doors from 6pm-11pm, and there’s a slew of attractions here that’ll transport you straight to the Wild West.

Take a spin on the revolving Butch Cassidy’s Trail, or brace yourselves for impact as you splash down in the Grand Canyon River Rapid. As for the little ones, they can hitch a ride on the Wagon Wheel Ferris wheel, or hand feed rabbits and cows at the Fresh Farm Barn.

Don’t forget to pay a visit to the park’s Main Stage, where you’ll get to rub shoulders with cowboys all dressed up in their Western shirts, hats, and boots. There’ll also be mesmerising fire shows performed at the Red Indian Village daily at 9.20pm, so set your alarms for that.
