Rollercoaster addicts would find that there’s no shortage of new theme parks in Asia. From the new World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland to the upcoming Junglia Nature Theme Park in Okinawa, wandering thrillseekers can just hop on a plane to get their adrenaline fix.
Well, let us put Sun World Halong Complex on your radar. Located in the heart of Halong city in Vietnam, It’s Southeast Asia’s largest theme park, spanning 214 hectares. That’s about 2 times the size of Gardens by the Bay, which occupies 101 hectares.

Don’t mistake Sun World Halong Complex as just one massive theme park, though. It actually has several parks spread out across 2 main areas: The Coastal Amusement Park and Amusement Park on Ba Deo Hill.

They’re connected by a double-decker cable car system that boasts the longest cable car track in the world. But that’s not all, visitors can see views of the world-famous Halong Bay from these cable cars – so you can sightsee while heading to the next park.

At Sun World Halong Complex, you’ll be spoilt for choice with 3 parks located within the complex – namely Mystic Mountain, Dragon Park, and Typhoon Water Park. Plus, there’s also Sun World Beach, a free public beach for locals and tourists alike. You can get to the beach from the entry gate of Sun World Halong Complex via an electric car for VND5,000/ride (~S$0.27).

Those travelling with kids should check out Mystic Mountain, a family-friendly park with attractions like the Wax Museum, Magic Land, Koi Bridge, Zen Garden, and Sun Wheel. The latter is a gigantic Ferris wheel standing at 296m high, and has probably appeared on Instagram feeds worldwide as one of the complex’s most iconic attractions.

But if screaming your heart out is what you’re looking for, head to Dragon Park, which is more suited for the thrillseeking crowd. Not only are there over 20 roller coasters here, but you can also have a go at Crazy Reptiles, a bumper car ride, Halong Railway, and the Royal Carousel.

And last but not least, cool down at Typhoon Water Park, which boasts splash park play areas, a wave pool, water slides, and even a relaxing sun bay.
Additionally, you can easily spend a day at Sun World Halong Complex without having to worry about leaving the area to get food. Head to Sun World Old Quarter Kiosks for a variety of food options, from the Sushi Bar to The Dragon Food Temple, where you can find traditional Vietnamese cuisine.
Now that we’ve convinced you to book a flight ticket to Vietnam pronto, the question is, how do you get to Sun World Halong Complex?
The nearest major city is Hanoi, which you can get to via direct flights from Changi Airport. From there, hop on the many buses from My Dinh Bus Station to Mong Cai, Cua Ong, Bai Chay, Cam Pha or Halong. Then, simply hail a taxi to Sun World Halong Complex.
